    Ringtime of the Audi R8

    The R8 (6-speed manual, carbon-ceramic brakes and Pirelli P Zero Corsa) achieved a 8.04 in the Sportauto Supertest.

    What is their time for 997TT, F430 and GT3? This isn't anywhere near as fast as I thought it would be.

    Well the audi R8 is more of a 997 Carrera competitor than 997TT/F430, isn't it? Wait for the R10...

    NBR times obviously don't reflect real-world tq, turbo lag, exhaust note charisma, brake pedal feel, etc...

    But didn't the '02 SL55 v1.0 achieve an 8:06 NBR?

    BTW, I believe that 430 NBR was achieved on non-street tires...so perhaps 8:0x is more realistic time for 430 on street tires....

    I will open a good question IMHO:

    How is it possible that R8 is faster on EVO test track(as well as in C&D test) then 997TT?
    Let me explain little bit here... ON THREE German tracks(Oschersleben, Hockenheim Klein Kurs and Nordschleife) R8 was slower then 997TT(all test done by German mags-Sport Auto, Auto Zeitung, Auto Bild Sportscars).
    So, is it possible that EVO stuff do not know how to drive properly 997TT? IMHO it seems so(sorry Steve D!)...

    AMV8 with the good tires (factory option) is faster (8.03).
    The 997S is also faster (7.59 or 8.02).

    Not very good times for the R8, the evo review led us to believe the R8 would be sub 8s...

    but kreso, the R8 beats gallardo and others too in the Evo review, how do you explain that???

    Maybe the car brings so much confidence the semi-pro drivers are faster, but pros don't benefit from that?

    Please, please do not post factory Ring times! Just Sport Auto times please!

    So, its factory time is faster then any version of 997CS...

    This is another case for ignoring claimed factory numbers. Factory numbers are BS in 99% of all cases

    EVO track results are little bit too optimistic IMHO... BUT, if we put average driver in both R8 and 997TT on twisty road end result will be R8 faster IMHO. Why? R8 is much, much easier to drive 8/10 or more so, it will be confidence booster for average driver. On the other hand 997TT is much, much more trickier to drive 8/10 or more. It is drivers attention booster, it is a car for "Kenner-nice German word!" or is simple English the one with true knowledge who to drive a rear engine sportscar! In 997TT you need more then 10000km's IMO to get in friendly relationship with your car(maybe even more if you are average driver!)... In R8 you get the confidence from the start...

    BTW, these results did not change my opinion-for me R8 and 997TT.

    BUT, THE BEST VALUE AND IMHO A REAL SPORTSCAR IS VETTE Z06!

    Still, SA times, 9 secs slower than the dissapointing 997TT lap times, for the same price in the US...

    But to be fair, you have to take the factory times of the Porsches as well. And I bet some Ferrari testdriver managed a 7.48 for the F430 then.

    There was also a rumor of 7.40 factory time for 997TT with cup tires... We should not use factory times, sorry for bringing it up. Somebody has 997S SA times to compare?

    Remember Porsche 997CS(-20mm/LSD,PCCBs,X51) Hockenheim time?
    1.13,7min this time is achived by Anja Wassertheurer, not good old Horst... And this time is the same as time Anja achived(again, not Horst) with 997TT(manual,LSD,PCCBs, Michelin Pilot PS2 N1)... Horst achived 1.11,9min in 997TT with Michelin Pilot Cup N0...
    And last interesting thing Anja was faster in Cayman S around Hockenheim then good old Horst...

    BUT, I still trust HVS as much as possible! In the article he praises R8 very much...

    Tires in this case. AMV8 time was with semi-slick (factory option though).

    For the story 997S don't have semi-slick as factory option because they do not have a dry sump pump. 997TT and GT3 do.

    Back to your question... Difference here is just 1s... Maybe Horst had a best drive of his life that day in AM?
    On the Hockenheim R8 is truly very fast indeed-1.12,7min, do not forget that this is the same time as F430F1(also with Corsa's)!
    Nordschleife is more power track so, if we look at it that way R8 resluts are OK BUT, just ok(small letters!)...

    BTW, Aston sended factory crew to help Sport Auto stuff. This is the known fact.

    Audi and Porsche just sended their fastets versions(of R8 and 997TT) to Sport Auto.

    All in all after re-reading the article I am pleased.
    R8 and 997TT for me.
