Carbon Ceramic Brakes Standard for 2008

Ferrari is celebrating a streak of can't-be-stopped racing success by making sure its cars have no problem stopping at all. At the Bologna motor show today, the brand announced that for the 2008 model year, each and every Ferrari model leaving the factory will be equipped with CCM (carbon ceramic material) brakes as standard equipment. The brand was first to market with the technology five years ago, and now it'll be the first to make Brembo's most exclusive discs standard across the line. The decision was made based on "their enormous popularity with clients and a desire to underscore [Ferrari's] technical leadership" and also to celebrate taking both the Constructor's and Driver's titles in Formula 1 racing. The release doesn't say how this will change pricing for each model, but Ferrari's clientele likely won't notice or complain about a jump of five or ten thousand dollars.

"five or ten thousand dollars" ?

I'm a huge fan of the Ceramics had them on my last Ferrari & have them now so applaud the move. If they're only marking up by 5 or 10k that would be even more amazing, I paid around $18k for the CCM's on my F430.

Re: Carbon Ceramic Brakes Standard for 2008

Feminists/transgenders/Luddites are prob organizing a protest at F HQ re: the demise of the "girlie" steel brakes.....

In US, CCM have always been free....just as free/trivially cheap as one-yr use of any new 599/430/Scud, no matter options/airshipping....the mathematic wonders of 100% one-yr trade-in value......

In Germany price increase for the 599 for example will be something like 25k (CCM cost 15k BTW). So Ferrari will charge you A LOT more than they did when you were ordering CCM.

F really seem to be ratcheting up their own rhetoric.

^^^Why the hell do you think you pay PR firms obscene amounts of money? They almost forgot to mention that Ferrari's are endorsed by the Pope

Re: Carbon Ceramic Brakes Standard for 2008

Surely this technology will come down in price with wider availability and manufacture in bigger numbers...?

Probably, slower than you think. As long as buyers are willing to pay $8K and up for ceramic brakes, why should the auto manufacturer (Porsche and Ferrari) lower the price?

I think Chevy is going to start having them and that might help change things...

They were saving that for the next press release, but you've ruined their plan now!

List price goes up by about US$15k.

I also think it's an excellent move from Ferrari. IMO, CC brakes must be standard on any fast car.

Definitely. CCM are a must have on cars like GT2/3, Gallardo/Murciélago and any Ferrari.

Ferrari is beginning to irritate me. They see Porsche coffers filled with dollars and are trying to emulate them. Because demand for their limited production cars are high, they believe their marketing plans are bullet proof i.e. "they will buy everything we will tell them to".

Overreaching is the curse of companies who believe in their own infallibility and propaganda.

Delaying the 430 replacement because they are introducing a cheaper models despite repeated denials; requiring one year lease on the Scud; forced option purchasing; claiming going green by making their cars lighter yet apparently now committed to retractable hardtops and on and on. This trend is not good for the consumer.

Getting giddy up for the end of the Ponzi scheme?
