Also - F1 is essentially a "driver's championship" whereas sportscar racing is more about the cars. There are more people into drivers (nationality/personality/looks/lifestyle/etc) than there are true petrol heads, thus making F1 easier to market.

Very few manufacturers have been in LM racing at the prototype class for so long as Audi. The rest have tried their hand for a while and they stopped after winning once or they gave up.
Ultimately, Audi will abandon LM too and perhaps Porsche will be handed the baton by VW Group.
Also it would a good idea for Porsche to enter F1 but only as an engine manufacturer. If you win you get the credit, if you lose it's the team to blame.

I will have to disagree on that. It's down to manufacturers and more specifically down to Ferrari. If Ferrari were to leave F1, the championship would be all but over.
