    Re: April numbers are in

Hey Ron - any idea for drop in Porsche sales?

    Re: April numbers are in

Must be the continuing fall in Cayenne sales....

I wish EricAlan would elaborate on this. But I personally think is due to car market slow down and more competitive products.

    Re: April numbers are in

Broad slowdown in April Auto Sales, not isolated to Porsche at all. Even Toyota and the other Jap manufacturers got whacked.

But a secondary reason is probably a slowdown in Cayenne sales due to gas prices and the green movement.

    Re: April numbers are in

Cayenne sales should be up because prior to the introduction of the new Cayenne model, its sales were very low.

However, I do agree that most car manufacturers suffered declines but I should add Porsche usually bucks the trend. Their Boxster, Cayman and base 997 sales are way off and but for the Turbo and RS the number could have been much worst.

    Re: April numbers are in

Based on YTD, only Ford and Isuzu are worse than Porsche

    Re: April numbers are in

These numbers are for USA. In Germany Porsche numbers are 10.7% up in March 2007 in comparison to March 2006. BTW, Porsche sold 2067 cars in Germany in March 2007.

Biggest loosers in Germany are BMW( -16.9%!!) and Audi( -11.2%!)...

    Re: April numbers are in

I believe the hottest models of 997 for the U.S. are GT3 and GT3RS, to some degree turbo too but turbos are showing up more and more at the dealers with buyers backing out.

GT3 and GT3RS should make up the numbers soon hopefully.

    Re: April numbers are in

ron the gt3 and rs have a reduced production number compared to the turbo and carrera's . i dont think they will make a significant change in sales number

    Re: April numbers are in

    The 997TT Cab will help.

As far as the number for Porsche being up in Germany it is no surprise. BMW, MB, VW and Audi are too numerous and given the German penchant to buy home grown products Porsche is the only one they can turn too.

    Re: April numbers are in

BTW Nick, Ferrari sold 105 cars in March 2007 in Germany... Maserati on the other hand sold only 24 cars in March 2007 in Germany...

Aston Martin, Corvette and Lamborghini numbers are also up in Germany and generally all are doing very well in Europe...

Maserati is on the bottome in Europe but, doing pretty good in USA... Different taste I guess...

    No, it won't.

    Re: April numbers are in

European economy is picking up in '07 while the US is slowing down, that could explain the discrepancy.

    Re: April numbers are in

i thought that the introduction of the cayenne will make sales go up....apparently i was wrong

    Re: April numbers are in

Plumetting US Boxster sales ( and Caymans , too ) are the reason for PCNA sales decline vs year earlier. There now 10 years worth of used Boxsters on the market . For the price of a new 505 hp Corvette Z06 , a buyer of a Boxster S ( who is not likely the type of buyer for a Z06 at any price but sees where the Boxster lies in a value sense ) probably prefers buying a used one for half as much - and with the minimal power/performance gains over the past few years, a better deal in their mind ? Poor Boxster ( and Cayman ) are priced so high in the marketplace but are constrained in power output by big brother 911 $10K-$15K above it .Solution : time for light weight Boxster and Cayman Clubsport - same or slightly bumped hp so as not to ruffle 911 intenders , but chopping a couple hundred pounds and installing sportier non-PASM suspension similar in response , though not height due to US regs ,of the euro " -20 " suspension.

    Re: April numbers are in

Porsche USA sales always drop when real estate values go soft or fall.

Porsche was lucky to launch the Boxster during the dot com bubble and even luckier that a real estate boom happened after the dotcom bubble.

The maserati quartorpotte is hot in the US. Selling like hotcakes.

    Re: April numbers are in

Unit nos. for an entire mfr mean little...need to know how higher-margin models are selling (e.g., S-Class is only 10% of MB unit sales but is 40%ish of oper profits); factory incentives/cheap leases used to move units; avg selling price changes (e.g., frac of 997TT being sold loaded w/PCCB, etc vs prior mths), etc etc

That said, would observe Apr S-Class sales were down 20% vs yr ago, despite a brilliantly engineered car only launched 14 mos ago that costs same as S-Class of 15 yrs ago and offers 2 yr lease terms that are prob signif cheaper than 2 yr lease terms of 15 yrs ago (if such leases even existed back then).....

Bottom-line, would argue that though the wealth concentration in US/Lond has dramatically increased in past 5-10yrs, seems that product cycles for cars have dramatically shortened (perhaps only 12 mos of tight supply before any car becomes tough to sell w/o discts, no matter how cleverly engineered/reasonably priced) and affluent seem more inclined to tolerate price inflation for such discretionary spending as pvt planes, second/third/fourth wkend houses, Pateks, Petrus, etc, rather than cars

Even F in US struggles to incr MSRP and/or sales vols (only 25% of US 430's are spec'd w/CCM, despite 100% one-yr trade-in value ).....I suspect FNA realizes how fragile its demand curve is in US, let alone RoW.....after all, F struggled to even sell ?200 Enzos @MSRP in EU back in '03, despite all the alleged conspicuous consumers in Lond/MC (and those allegedly interesting/fast driving roads in EU).....
