    NORDSCHLEIFE TIMES: 997S VS F430

    Hello to everybody.
    I was asking myself if the new Sport Auto December test of 997s would put another incredible result for 911 vs Ferrari.
    Let me explain:
    1)997s with LSD and -20mm chassis and PCCB is rumored with to do a lap in less than 8 min, around 7.58 isn't it???
    2)The Ferrari Challenge Stradale did the lap in 7.56 and the 360 in 8.09.
    Considering that the new F430 is 3sec. faster on Fiorano track than 360 and considering that the 360 CS was 3,5sec. I guess the F430 will arrive close to the 360 cs time on nurburgring and perhaps the same time of 997s(145hp less but better handling/traction/brakes).
    Let's guess the time of 997s and F430.

    N.B the 997 Turbo will "destroy" the track, to me the time will be 7.48-7.50.

    Personally, I think the 997 Carrera S with 20 mm chassis will do around 8 min 02 sec. +/- 2 seconds on the Nordschleife.
    This isn't good? Well, it depends how you look at it.
    Walter Röhrl did 7 min 59 sec with this setup in the 997 Carrera S but he helped to develop this car and it probably grew on him like a second skin. Horst v. Saurma, the editor-in-chief of Sport Auto and the person who executes the Supertest is a professional race car driver and very experienced too. But I remember his 996 GT3 testdrive on the Nordschleife when he achieved 8 min 03 sec. Walter Röhrl achieved 7 min 57 sec and of course he has helped to develop the GT3 Mk1 too.

    So I personally think that Horst v. Saurma will be slightly slowlier than Walter Röhrl but it also depends on how "ambitious" Walter Röhrl was at the time when he achieved the 7 min 59 sec. time in the 997 Carrera S with 20 mm chassis. And it also depends on the brakes of these cars because the PCCB surely permits the driver to be 1-2 seconds faster (due to later braking points). And I don't have any information on the brake setup of the car tested by Walter Röhrl or the one Horst v. Saurma tested on the Nordschleife.

    BTW: the Ferrari 360 Modena did 8 min 09 sec.
    The 575 M did 8 min 03 sec.

    No matter how good or bad the time will be: we'll surely have a lot to discuss about it.

    Just try to look at it this way: to achieve a 8 min time on the Nordschleife in a car with 355 HP and almost 1500 kg of weight is impressive. 8 minutes was the time of real race cars with slicks many many years ago and I remember a 993 Turbo driver who really knew how to drive and using the old PZero C, he achieved a time of slightly under 9 minutes a few years ago.

    RC....a 993 turbo doing in the high 8s? why? I thought this car really handled well...def. has the power, and weighs similar to a 997S...
