We're limited by the forum software we're using.
I'm also not sure if larger Avatars would look nice.
However: I think that in 6 months or a year or so, we have to decide on a new forum software since the manufacturer of the current one seized further development.

well...depending on te resolution you're running. For instance, i'm running 1600x1200, so most peoples sigs are just fine...and the avs look really small.
now if you're running 1024x768 or lower...then i could understand where you're coming from

It's not the size that bugs me, it's the needless repetition of some pic that I didn't really want to see!
But in the big scheme of things, you have to consider that some people have slow modem links, and have to pay for their bandwidth, so it probably annoys them even more!
MOST people DON'T run 1600x1200. You need a very good monitor for that unless you like fuzzy text. In an ideal world, the Forum software could support user preferences for displayed Avatar size. As it doesn't, you have to stick with the lowest common denominator - Web designers have to try to make things work OK on 800x600, but scale to fill the screen available in the best possible way if possible. This forum software does a reasonable job of that IMHO. Just be thankful - we used to have to cater for 640x480!
