Sorry, you do that but I prefer to face reality head on, try to find the facts and prepare for its consecuences while wishing the best for Michael at the same time, than to place a blindfold over my eyes to reality in the superstitious belief that it may alter laws of nature with my mind. Hope doesn't have to be blind. To each his own.

Fact is that Corina Schumacher said that the facts will be provided only by doctors or Schumacher PR agrent, everything else is crap. I don't want to read the articles of some b*stards which write bad news only to make more money.

This is why I mentioned that article in a medical journal because it wasn't based on any rumors or speculations. Smiley

Don't know what crap you have been reading but what we are discussing here is based on what the doctors treating him have said so far, i.e. he suffered a severe craneal trauma with intreacraneal hemorrhage, he underwent an emergency craniotomy and a second surjery after that, and is being kept under a medical induced coma for almost a month now. What we are discussing "HERE" is the posible consecuences and the best educaated guess on his condition and prognosis based on those facts that we do know.

And turning away from those facts in an attempt to change reality by some ethereal positive mind energy radiations is not going to work, or at least don't expect everyone to take that attitude towards the situation. No one knows what his exact prognbosis is, not even the doctors treating him, but I'm afraid that withnthen information that we do know from the doctors, its not going to be a complete recovery. Thats not t say we can't all hope and wish him the best.

This article made me feel somewhat better. Sounds like we really need to wait for HIS doctors to provide an update before getting too discouraged.

A well structured report from the BBC which explores the factual possibilities facing Michael and his chances of recovery...

Much of the information here is very similar to Carlos' opinions given earlier in this thread...

Michael Schumacher is gradually being woken from his coma and is responding 'positively' to the treatment, according to a French newspaper.

    So true. Smiley

Yesterday, I read about a 40 year old guy from the Netherlands who died skiing in Austria. He hit his head...and didn't wear a helmet. I cannot even imagine how someone would not wear a helmet when skiing nowadays. So dumb. Smiley

    Re: Michael Schumacher in Coma

For decades no one wore helmets in skiing. Were there many incidents of craniocerebral injuries? I don't know!

IMO non-professional skiers go faster nowadays with the help of new tech skis and also because the level of fitness among laypeople is higher than it was in the past, many skiers take more risks.

More people go skiing, more people have more advanced skill levels (also due to new and improved equipment and of course the vast availability of good skiing schools almost everywhere) and yes, people love to take more risks (the "real adventure..." Smiley) and in my opinion, they do not really pay attention to other skiers anymore.

For the first year, my kids and wife are wearing a back protector (additional to the helmet). The reason? Almost every time they go skiing, something crashes into them from behind. Last time, my daughter was hurt (not much but it could have gone very other way) and the guy who did it was lucky I wasn't with them. My kids and wife are very good skiers but they don't have eyes on their backs. Smiley

I don't know what is going on but people just don't seem to care about others anymore. Smiley

Also, last year, I fell during my snowboard lesson (with a private instructor) and a minute(!) later, someone crashed into me while I was lying on the ground (I couldn't get up because I fell on my chest and had serious pain). I have black skiing clothes and a black helmet, I was visible from a mile away and this guy crashed into me because...now wait for this...he was changing music on his iPod. Smiley  C'mon... Smiley

    Re: Michael Schumacher in Coma

I think a kind of "license" should be introduced to determine who can ski where. It is not good to mix children and totally recreational skiers with wannabe Downhill Champions doing high speeds.

Do you really want to govern one of the last recreational thrill in this way? Sure, there are idiots who are careless and incompetent. But you have to credit folks who want to ski with a mediocum of common sense. We have far too many rules on fun right now IMHO.

I bet you this will be the next thing the EU will want to regulate through Regulations and Directives Smiley

    Re: Michael Schumacher in Coma

I had a helmet as a kid because I crashed all the time and had many concussions. (explains a lot,eh?).  Since 16 or so I have only skied without protective gear - and jeans at that - because I never fall and never take big risks.  I ski like some people walk or jog, not like some people race cars.  I would say it depends on your skill level and the risks you take.  Mind you I still ski the back bowls and moguls etc. - just no super fast slopes or where novices like to run into others.  I hate those fools on snow boards who spend all day on their asses and think it is no big deal to run into others.  I don't even touch others skies while standing in lift lines.

I am not in favor of helmet laws - just commons sense please.  My heart goes out to the Schumacher family.  I always would have wished for a life like his - not so much anymore.  We are all lucky to have good health if we have it!  Hug your family one extra time tonight!

    Re: Michael Schumacher in Coma

Skiing is the one of the last great freedoms.  It would be a tragedy to regulate it but people need to be made responsible for their actions.

Over the past couple of months I have spoken about the Schumacher accident with a friend who is a very prominent neurosurgeon based in Chicago with international acclaim.  He finally said yesterday that, given what is presented in the press, if factual, it is not looking very well...

    Sad...
