    Re: Feed-back from GTR owners

I do not know of too many other cars that shows transmission temp.  So how do we know that there isn't a problem with transmission temp in other cars?

Absolutely correct. I heard about some problems with SMG equipped cars (BMW and, if I recall correctly, Audi) that limit their functionality if temperatures rise too high. Thus, this is most likely not only a problem with the new GTR.

The proper way to deal with those issues are adequate cooling devices (which in turn require adequate aerodynamics to mitigate the adverse effects cooling has on the aerodynamics). That is the key problem with the GTR. In essence it is a engineering error. A "track car" without adequate cooling is no track car Smiley

Please don't post the interior pics... They are quite visually offensive

    Re: Feed-back from GTR owners

I really do not understand all this debate as it constantly boils down to performance vs. durability.  I never knew all the kinds of oils in my 997S which I tracked quite a lot, but then again I neither had problems nor did other ever flag them.  Having said that I did overcook my brakes (twice) but that was when I first started tracking and did not know about cooling down Smiley 10

Bottom line from what I have read both here and in general, the GTR should not really be tracked in anger, whether component stress, or warranty issues, the costs of doing so are just not commensurate with the sticker price of the car.

Horses for courses, much like the BMW M brakes which are not supposed to last on track (never tracked my M at the time so heresay from my part).  Enjoy the GTR power, or enjoy the TT/GT challenge is my take.

    Re: Feed-back from GTR owners

having read the frist statements about the car i feel somewhat disturbed by all those points a driver obviously has to look at.

to me as a simple guy I want to buy a car that first and foremost LASTS under whatever circumstances.

What is the point that you can technically lap the NBR at 7'30 or so if you need to do X amount of things afterwards. I'd rather drive a Carrera S 1 minute slower but 24h on the NBR...you're still miles faster than a GTR that needs cooling of the transmission, breaks and whatever after 3 rounds miles ahead of you...I was actually a fan of the GTR and honestly considered buying one despite it's size/shape and weight but it's technical achievement honored in endless different car-magazines is truly amazing. However, to me this is like a drag-race moster with 5000 HP doing 5 seconds to the 1/4-mile but needs a total engine rebuild every mile....technical achievement yes - for the road n occasionally track useless....

I guess it's back to square one for me  : Porsche is one a the few reliable sportscars u can drive on the road track and back.....

Agree... will be interesting to see the final results of your track comparison.  But Janus earlier made a very good point, that few have noted, and that is that the GT-R is a first generation, completely new platform - a very brave move for Nissan at this price point.   IF Nissan is able to continually improve this, they will presumably work on the cooling, reliability etc. issues so that the 2013 version may have both performance and reliability .... but for now a comparison with the 911 platform which has seen 40+ years of development is a bit tough.
