    New Pics Of My M3

Just got these new rims (19'' OEM ZCP), and some small exterior modifications (getting rid of the ugly yellow reflectors).

I think its a big improvement from the old 18''s

ah, what a great car to make long journeys that involve traffic. splendid all around performer.

i'm on the lookout for a replacement 'GT' car, Aston DB9 is a contender, i wonder when the 997TT comes out. (nothing else comes to mind in this 'niche', hate the bentley GT's looks)

    my gallery is at http://gallery.rennlist.com/gallery/moogle

Re: New Pics Of My M3

Looks great Moogle, are those the new "Competition" wheels?

As for M3 substitutes, if you're considering a DB9/997tt price wise, I would go so far as looking at the V8 Vantage, SL55 or even the E60 M5 (if you can get past the looks).

Re: New Pics Of My M3

Nice ride - last of the Bangle-less bimmers. Yes, Danny, the ZCP code is for the competition package...

Re: New Pics Of My M3

i think the aston db9 fits the bill perfectly.

    i'm looking for a 2+2 ish coupe,

the pricerange im looking at is the mid 100k territory.

dont like mercedes (anymore) m5 is 4 door.

ah, i forgot the M6, gotta go test that out when it comes out.

Re: New Pics Of My M3

The DB9 looks good but is slow as a turd for the money. The 6-Series (and M6/vert variations) is IMO the ugliest Bangle design to date.

Then there is the CL55 but the design is dated and you don't like Benz...

Re: New Pics Of My M3

The rims are so nice..... are they the same ones as the competition M3's??

Re: New Pics Of My M3

i've got a CL55, its in beijing, superb car. - but fairly devoid of emotion. perfect car for the occasion then innit black benzes are a must in china, for more than a few reasons.

deedee, yes (as i said in the original post) they are the OEM rims from the competition package. (ZCP)

DB9 is a winner in the cars-as-costume jewelry category....eye-catching styling and aurally pleasing exhaust note. But its vestigial so-called back seat makes 997/996's look like a full-size backseat. Drive DB9 and note it has trac ctrl issues even in casual urban driving; has poor ergonomics of driveline tunnel vs accelerator pedal position; passenger seat mysteriously has only enough leg room for short chicks; turn signal stalks/switchgear have cheap, breakable feel of a 996's; lacks interior storage compartments/trunk space one may expect in a 4000+ lb alleged GT car; and key fob is eerily similar to that of an Explorer......I guess the Ford bean-counters cut off the AM guys before fully outfitting the car for jewelry mode....

Re: New Pics Of My M3

wow, that bad? EVO / CAR seem to only complain that it is a poor car on the track (expected). they may be glossing up the rest of their opinions because it is british...

i will go try and see for myself, i wonder how it compares to the CL55 in terms of overall quality.

the ford relationship is a big downer though

Re: New Pics Of My M3

maserati? maybe? id go with the DB9 for sure, but I think the gransport is supposed to be really nice!

Remember that car mags will potentially say anything to sell mags and please large advertisers (and cos. that provide cash-poor journalists w/nice trinkets as part of test drive expce)....gotta drive these cars yourself to derive useful conclusions....again, DB9 has definite crowd and, more importantly, chick appeal in towns bored by many 996/997, 55/65, etc....but IMO DB9's a vastly inferior driving/GT car vs those relatively mass-produced 997S or 55s....

Re: New Pics Of My M3

I would'nt consider a CL 55 because mercedes is saving money to pump up the chrysler quality. And of course it's as heavy as the DB9. A tuner ones said: 1000 kg is better than 1000 HP.
The subjective driving experience are much higher with a m3 than a much heavier car with more power. Okay, it will differ if you only want to drive straight highways its more fun with 5,5 litre and 500 hp and you are'nt interested in the economical aspects of raising gasoline prices. After all the CL55 amg is an enormously pimped pensioner's car.
I would suggest a maserati, maybe have look at the new ferrari scaglietti 612 or F430

btw. I think the M3 is on of the best cars around. The track laps on the "Nordschleife" are just awesome.

Re: New Pics Of My M3

the current M3 is the best one that bmw has EVER made IMO. However, I also liked Mercedes' last clk55 (I hate the current one... it actually looks like a c class coupe opposed to an e class coupe). So far as the CL's are concerned.... THEY ARE BIG. I was considering a CL55 but didn't think about the SIZE of it as much- it's cool b/c it is fast in straight line and is a bull when it comes to highway driving...but it isn't something that I would play with like a bmw M3 or a Z4 when I trying to have fun when driving.

Re: New Pics Of My M3

Those rims are the M3 "CSL" ones...

    M6 or wait the new M3 V8

Re: New Pics Of My M3

Great car, I used to own one as well. Incredible power.

    Enjoy!

P.S. The CSL style wheels look awesome.

Re: New Pics Of My M3

    Sweeeet ! Enjoy ! Revvv

Re: New Pics Of My M3

You're gonna love it Moogle. I had an '01, Imola Red convertible. It certainly was a blast. Be prepared, you'll have plenty of morons who will cut in front of you and the tailgaters are like flies. Of course, you will have the power to correct all this. Enjoy. It's a classic and the right color.

Re: New Pics Of My M3

Moogle very nice wheels!!!!! very well

how long did you live with the 18" on your car???

Could you make a small review for me please??, because i intend to upgrade wheels on my 997-base- and go for 19"
but i m afraid i ll loose performance ,acceleration etc..

    from 265/40 18 i ll fo with carrera S standard 295/30 19"

What were your impressions after going on 19" in this gorgeous M3?

Re: New Pics Of My M3

    Dilinger:

I lived with 18'' for about 9 months, logged about 11k miles on them. They had Continental ContiSportContact tires(OEM).

With the new wheels, i got Michelin Pilot Sport PS2s, because having driven many miles on these tires on other cars, i believe they are THE BEST warm weather performance tire without going for the R compounds (Corsa / Pilot Cup) and thusly sacrificing rainy drivability.

The first thing i noticed was that the ride was slightly harsher, but the response was much better. After breaking in the tires last week, i had a chance to ring them out on some backroads. they are superior to the conti's in every aspect.

as for the rim, the switch from 18 to 19 is a big one in terms of aesthetics, of course 19s look better.

there is barely any sacrifrice in ride quality and nothing that a car enthusiast would interpret as unbearable

    here are two comparison pics.

    (old - july 2004) - (new - may 2005)

(PS. the only thing i dislike about 18'' lipped wheels is that they make the rim seem small)

what do you mean they seem smaller???

Due to the lip?? The 18" look smaller???

    Please clarify this...

Moogle, thanx for your reply, but please make a review

    CONCERNING the PERFORMANCE DIFFERENCES!!!

THAT IS MY CONCERN ,DONT CARE ABOUT THE HARSHER RIDE////

I just want to know if your car feels slower, or if it is...

Also what sizes you had,and what sizes you put on now???

    Thanx a lot

Re: New Pics Of My M3

i think 18''s with lips look smaller than 18''s without.

i had OEM size tires on my M3, not that it would help you with your selection, since the rim widths are different from porsche rims.

here are the OEM widths for M3s.

    18''
    225/45ZR18
    255/40ZR18

    19''
    225/40ZR19
    255/35ZR19

Re: New Pics Of My M3

but does your car feel slower now? more confident? better cornering?

Re: New Pics Of My M3

better cornering for sure, but this may be due to the superior tires. - im alot more confident as well - (also due to the tires) - im a big fan of the michelin pilot sport PS2s.

feels like stiffness (or rather harshness) has been increased 10%.

biggest improvement is looks of course this is really an aesthetics mod. there is no other reason to goto 19'' over 18'' if the tires are the same

interesting fact - the OEM 19''s weigh less than the 18''s - on the M3, due to the way the rims are manufactuered. cast vs forged.
