    scud vs 458?

    question for rc and everyone,

     

    i like my silverstone scud  but i'm hearing 458 is better and more generally useful, is this true even tho' its 500 pounds heavier?  i try to cut my cars off at 3000-3100 pounds.....

    thinking a 458 w racing seats might be fun but will it be a let down after the scud....

    With the 458 you gain a more technical advanced package but the car is set to be a GT, heavy and soft compared with the Scud. The biggest gain IMO is the gearbox reliability of the 458 compared with the Scud.

    I believe you should wait for the 458 Scud.

    With your weight on weight, i'd say stay with the Scud. It is more of a raw performance machine, despite the fact that the 458 may be faster due to technology etc... It is more GT and a bit heavier at the end of the day. You should definitely wait for the 458 Scud because that thing will be crazy good and it's not too too far away now i imagine..

    depending of what you seek for while driving yr ferrari. if it's pure pleasure and max involvement and feeling to be in a "Special vehicle" stay with Scud - for people who drive their cars to work and cruise around - a 458 is a fantastic car - but so are many others SLS,997TTS etc etc - comming back just from a testdrive 991 vs 997 GT3RS - it's a tremendous difference in feel. so once you're down the road with lightweight, raw&pure driverscars you will be disappointed with anything else !

    It really is an analogue versus digital comparison (Scud vs 458). Given the power and overall performance advantage of the 458 ( not just engine ouput, but as mentioned from the dual clutch) over the Scud, the weight differential becomes less of an issue. Then the rest is really more one of sensory inputs - the Scud camp love the rawness and "visceral feel" of the gear change of the old gear box in particular. The steering is appreciably faster in the 458. Given that you have skipped the 458 for so long (a mistake IMVHO Smiley), I would hold out for the inevitable 458 Scud.

    it will be out in 2013 - not sure exactly which part of the year. I may learn more after a trip to Maranello at the end of May.
