That's EXACTLY how I felt too. When I first saw the R8, I thought it just didn't look right, esp. with the side blade. But now, it is simply wooooooow...

The dealer called me to take a look at it, as I had never seen a R8 before in the flesh. Beautiful; simply stunning!!! The cliche of "pics don't do it justice" definitely applies here. I hope that with the collection of your car, it moves me up one more slot at the dealership! Here's to seeing you on the road....

by any chance, did your testcar had the no. IN-V 1898?
As Audi has only 10 testcars for whole Germany the chance is high that it was the same car. Anyway - this car I was driving was a total nightmare (Suspension Problems, moderate engine Power).

Luckily you have good weather there
It's the first time I notice the side markers, is it mandatory in the US ? here is a picture of mine (without) , first encounter before delivery in November
btw, there is a Ferrari subforum on this board, why not an Audi R and S one, now that we are 2 or 3 R8 users (Kreso...) ?

beautiful car you got there. Yes, it's U.S. requirement to have so many reflectors and Orange side markers; as to what the purpose would be 
? I would say someone at the Department of Transportation (DOT) was either color blind or had poor vision to make this kind of sealy requirements 
.
regarding AUDI forum, it's unlikely to happen becuase rennteam was originally created for Porsche and Ferrari was added later as well as sports cars forum. If we keep adding different forums than AMG and M users ask for their section and next thing you know rennteam becomes another mega variety forum on the web.
I believe the 'Sports Cars' section will fit the purpose of all sports car enthusiast of all brand

The purpose of our required passive reflective side markers is ( supposedly ) to prevent someone from ramming you from the side if you are parked and your lights are off on a dark road ( and you have a black car !) or conditions such as fog or heavy rain obscures visibilty .

I have to check the full number on the pics on my other PC in the company, but it was sure IN-V XXXX.
After the drive I was a little disapointed because of the really light steering and the road holding, but I thougt the reason for that are the fitted winter tires.
Great sound from outside, but inside really quiet. I don't think that this car had it's full power. It felt not quicker than a 997 S that I drove one week ago.
But this is just my experience with this particular test-car from ingolstadt.

!And we used to have an AMG forum here, and that didn't work quite right
