    RE:Installed my Cargraphic TUV Sound

I have installed and used my Cargraphic Sound system on my car for almost 1,000 km now and have made the following observations.

Positive first; The parts fit like factory and have great welds and finish. The engine revs freer and the car feels lighter to the throttle. Down shifts are smoother as the throttle revs easier when blipped. The power feels seamless as always and I can't tell you where it is but it feels like there is more and it feels good.

Now the Negative; There is a pronounced resonance at 125 Hz that is there from idle to 3,400 RPM peaking at about 2,400 RPM. This measured on an IVIE-33 portable spectrum analyzer. I recall RC stating that the resonance went away after 2,000 KM and I hope this to be true as the resonance is noticeable and in the cruising part of my rev range. I live in North America.

Five years ago I had a Fabspeed system for my 993 that I sold shortly after buying it as the resonance drove crazy. This one is not that bad but for the money and from RS Tuning I expected better.

Anyone else's finding on resonance in after market systems for our cars would welcome.

Re: RE:Installed my Cargraphic TUV Sound

Point of clarification, the 125 Hz resonance is at 93 db when the interior sound level is at 83 db. Keeping in mind the db scale is logarithmic and that 86 db is twice as loud as 83 db etc. and thus 93 db is 10 times louder than the noise floor. Te resonance is completely gone by 3,400 RPM

I had the loud Cargraphic installed about 7000 miles ago and it never had any resonnance in the cabin. I even drove it straight from San Diego to San Francisco one day and it did not bother me at all. I know very well what resonnance is, the GHL I have in the boxster resonnated like crazy the first 1000 miles or so, then it started to mellow down slowly.
Personally I wish the cargraphic loud was even a little louder inside the cabin. maybe you should have yours checked or maybe the sound version is different, I am not sure.

    Manual transmission or Tip?

Re: RE:Installed my Cargraphic TUV Sound

    Manual, why?

Sometimes the drone/resonance is really exacerbated in cars with auto transmissions.

Re: RE:Installed my Cargraphic TUV Sound-PICTURE

Here is a picture of the Spectrum Analyzer I hope this helps me explain this.

It went away at around 3000 km but it can be very annoying before that, I agree. Just make sure you also install the sport airfilter, it is an important part of the whole package. Cargraphic has recently sent me their TÜV approval certificate for the exhaust incl. the airfilter (wich is MANDATORY!) and the TÜV approval states that the exhaust/airfilter modification adds 28 HP to the 997 Turbo power figure. Since the TÜV approval asks for a change of the power figure in the car documents, this claim seems to be true. Probably the cheapest way to gain a little power without compromising reliability.

Btw: be warned that with the sport airfilter, the sound of the exhaust in the upper rev range will be BRUTALLY loud and aggressive. Just a friendly reminder.

Re: RE:Installed my Cargraphic TUV Sound

Rc do you have any problem with your exchaust so far?! (Chech engine light etc) My car says every 3 days P2188 and P2190 error which is system too rich at iddle on left and right.. So I believe that it is from the cats of my exhaust..

Re: RE:Installed my Cargraphic TUV Sound

RC, where do you get the sports air filter?

Nick, I have had no check engine lights with mine in over 1,000 Km.

Re: RE:Installed my Cargraphic TUV Sound

I have more than 10.000km with my exhaust... and the problem started now..

Re: RE:Installed my Cargraphic TUV Sound

cargraphic tuv SOUND = exhaust? 28 hp gain? where i can find it?? thanksss

Re: RE:Installed my Cargraphic TUV Sound

xandi; Try Greg in the US he is good to deal with.

Re: RE:Installed my Cargraphic TUV Sound - Fixed

My 9 year old says best "All better now"

I had the dealer realign the mufflers as they were not level across the bottom when viewed from behind. At the junction between the mufflers they looked like a flat inverted V. Using a straight edge this was corrected and the mufflers were aligned vertically and horizontally. The result is that almost all of the resonance is gone at 125 HZ.

I will post picture of SA result when I can.

I now conclude that there may have been some contact between the mufflers and the heat shield or the mounting bracket that may have caused this resonance.

I am a very happy customer now.
