    Re: Carbon Fiber wheels

I would be very reluctant before purchasing a set of these.

    Re: Carbon Fiber wheels

high performance street motorcycles hv been using carbon fiber wheels for quite some time btw.

    Re: Carbon Fiber wheels

The Koenigsegg CCX and Mosler got them a while ago.

    Re: Carbon Fiber wheels

If they break, they will completely shatter, not just crack or bend. That's what would make me nervous.

Yep. Not a good thing to happen on your car when doing 150+ mph...

    the article says:
Each carbon fiber rim is fabricated using a solid metal mold which ensures they are consistently made to a very close tolerance of accuracy straight from the tooling. This also gives a very high quality, durable finish which is resistant to brake dust, salt, ultra violet and the usual forms of corrosion. Carbon fiber in this form is not only very strong, but is also quite resistant to shock. It will not shatter as evidenced by its use in the construction of formula one chassis and aircraft wings.

    Re: Carbon Fiber wheels

Its use in F1 chassis or aircraft wings does not mean anything.
Carbon fibers are very resistant to elongation (i.e. pulling) and okay in compression alongside the direction of the thread, but they are unelastic (i.e. hate sudden force changes) and very brittle in compression if you hit them sideways.

It makes them great in a controlled environment where we can precisely know the forces they will be exposed to. A CF wheel will be designed to withstand the weight of the car and the centrifugal force created by their rotation.

Now then, what happens if you hit a bump while powersliding?

Spaghetti Carbonara with a touch of human, rich in essential minerals, such as iron, copper and zinc.
