    Re: UPDATES: 2018 Porsche Cayenne

    Whoopsy:

It's just about having the proper expectation.

Porsche is a performance car company, hybrid system to them is a supplementary system to the gasoline engine, unlike every other company that uses electricity as a primary and gasoline engine as the supplementary.

You thought the Panamera is a giant Prius, where the gasoline engine is a 'power adder', that's why you thought the changeover is odd and unrefined.

But if you see it as a gasoline car, and the hybrid system is the, say NOS, then you would appreciate the seamless addition of added performance from the helper hybrid system.

The e-mode in the Panamera has enough range to be a semi-primary forms of propulsion, and the 16-20km in my 918 is perfectly fine enough for a single round trip to the bank or a one way trip to somewhere a bit farther, already perfectly acceptable to me. Granted, the 918 has almost 300HP in electric mode, much more than the 136HP or so in the Panamera.

    Very well said. Smiley

In my opinion, ELVs would make much more sense in busses and trucks, maybe even as autonomous vehicles.

ELVs also make sense in smaller city cars.

Everything else will make sense at some point, especially when battery technology will be more advanced, charging will be much faster and the necessary charging infrastructure will be available.

    Nob Enzo you are wrong:

The Cayenne is based on a 100 mm shorter wheelbase MLB platform of Q7 and Bentayga making the car simular in  length as the gen2. According Auto Motor Sport the car is app 100mm lower. We will see on August 30 at the official presentation in Stuttgart.

At the end it's just 10 mm lower Smiley

And not as nice looking inside or out as my SQ7. Nor as impressive on paper either.

Something must be wrong, as I prefer most comparable Audi offerings over Porsche at the moment....

I think 993targa knows the last pic is a 958.1 generation Cayenne and was simply making the point that the wheel design shown on the new car above it looks extremely close to the version offered on the earlier model Smiley

Is it just me or the car is extremely low? I don't know if it's the perspective, the colour, maybe both, but I don't like the way it looks.

Also 0 excitement with its launch, the buzz in the internet is almost inexistent. Porsche should learn something from this.

The lower door trim panels are painted in  the exterior color, making the car look lower.

    Re: UPDATES: 2018 Porsche Cayenne

At some point Porsche have to accept that the SUV range is their biggest seller and requires a look of it's own that does not simply try to adapt the design of a mid engined sports car onto the face of a completely different type of vehicle. They may have needed to make that connection with the first series in 2002 when they were taking a risk with a whole new model but 15 years later they really should be confident enough to give the car that breakaway new identity. Unfortunately they appear too timid and are in danger of remaining forever trapped in the 911 cycle of barely noticeable changes to the average non-enthusiast buyer. Carry on doing that in a sector as fashion conscious as the SUV market and, in spite of the great handling chassis that lies underneath, they risk losing sales to more adventurous competitors who are taking bolder risks with their models.

I really like the Macan (I really do) but the engine choice always annoyed me. Now that Mercedes offers that fantastic sounding 4.0 l V8 Biturbo in the GLC model, I'm hooked. If Porsche would offer a similar engine in the Macan, take a guess which SUV I would have chosen instead?! The Cayenne Turbo is just too big for me...and even worse...too expensive (compared to the GLC63). Also, it sounds like crap. Smiley

    Re: UPDATES: 2018 Porsche Cayenne

Hopefully  if the GLC 63 sells like hot cakes Porsche will consider putting ina slightly detuned version of its own 4.0 V8 into the Macan. Lot of people (including myself) would jump at the smaller format of the vehicle with the V8.

    Re: UPDATES: 2018 Porsche Cayenne

I really don't care much about V8 vs V6 but they could make the Macan better sounding under acceleration. Sound at idle and when you start the car is actually pretty good even without the sport exhaust.

    Re: UPDATES: 2018 Porsche Cayenne

I think the new Cayenne may look better in the flesh then in the photos. The proportions particularly around the rear are a significant improvement imho. Kind of like the Turbo front as well. I notice that currently there is NO sports exhaust option on the configurator, anyone know if this is coming at some point?

    Re: UPDATES: 2018 Porsche Cayenne

ISUK, could you give me some examples of "more adventurous competitors" that Porsche will lose sales to?  Certainly not the GLC, please...

    Re: UPDATES: 2018 Porsche Cayenne

McLaren, Ferrari, Lambo (especially with the Urus) and even AM. Prices are higher but you find quasi new two year old cars for less than a new Porsche equivalent...

Not only Porsche refuse to experiment with designs, but they won't build the cars people really want and their prices are exploding for mass produced cars. No wonder many here despite being Porsche lovers have moved away from the brand.

It will change with the GLC 63. People want such a car...

    Audi... Smiley

Seriously: I think Porsche is the only real sportscar company without a proper mid engined supercar.

I had a Macan S for 2 years and sold it because I got bored of the V6. A V8 would have made all the difference.

Couldn't complain about the resale value though, sold it for $8K less than what I paid for it. It was an excellent car though overall.
