    Speed limit chim

    Hello All, anybody came across a way to disable the speed limit chim that comes on at 120KpH speed ..thanks
    "ding.. ding..ding...dinnnnng --- going banana in my head...

    speed limit chime?? never heard of it.
    is this some sort of legal requirement for cars in dubai?

    Use the stalk to turn it off.

    visit the dealer, they can turn it off.

    on the US version, we can turn it on/off ourselves via the OBC.

    check your PCM and your little window in your dashboard, you should be able to disable it without going to the dealer. I have heard that this can happen due to resetting the on-board computer.

    It's a regional thing. The ONLY way you can disable it is to goto the dealer. They will wire it up to a snazy looking tablet computer and 5 minutes later = no chime!

    All GCC P-cars come with a mandatory chime at 120 kph. This cannot be disabled by consumers.

    You have to go to a Porsche centre, and they'll connect your car to the PIWIS Porsche computer to disable the chime. A 5-minute job.

    Nabooda usually disable it during pre delivery but forgot on my car too .......... were very apologetic & only took 5 mins to sort at the service centre

    Go to the on board computer (lever on the left). Scroll through and there is speed function in there and you can set the speed anywhere you want for the chime to come on. I have an 06 997s and just set mine at 185 m.p.h. I am out of town and can not look at my car but it's very simple just go through the different fucntions and you will see one for speed. I did not even look at owners manual and just played with it and learned how it works. I have taken my car close to 130 mph and there is no chime. You don't need to go to the dealer.

    jimy - you do need to go to the dealer ......... there is a factory setting option which is different to the one edz61 describes and can only be canceled by the workshop's magic laptop.

    Spindar: Then what chime are you guys talking about it. Mine has none at this time. Originally it had one set at 100 m.ph. which I changed to 185 m.p.h.

    The chime you talk about does it do it once and then once you pass that speed it stops?? I wonder why I have no such a ding ding sound in mine

    Spinder is correct.. there are two types of chims... one is factory set by law and three that are user defined.. those what edz are talking about.. I will check the dealer...

    I have one set at 80mph(120km/h) then in the computer i have options for 3 more setting that i can change.....

    the 80mph one is fine as i then have another at 85mph just to remind me to watch my speed before PC Plod does...

    edz61, before new cars (not only Porsche's) leave the factory they get a country specific coding dependent on the region the car is sold to. The coding is needed to fulfill different legal requirements or to better suit different habits in different countries. E.g., cars for the US get a coding that could contain things like a beep when the ignition is switched off and the key is not removed before the driver's door is opened. Or different texts and symbols displayed in the instrument cluster's display regarding cruise control and brake related stuff. Cars for the Saudi-Arabia region get that repeating chime above 120km/h to remind drivers of the 120km/h speed limit in SA. Since jimy_q is from Dubai his car originally got SA coding with that annoying speed limit chime.

    Hi all,, to update you I went to the dealer and yes it is done, the speed limit chim is removed in 5 min.
