996TT and GT-3 seats - Euro input needed

I have several questions regarding putting GT-3 seats in my US spec. '03 TT. This Board has a large European presence and I need some 'ROW' feedback.

    My questions:

    1) For those fortunate enought to be able to order GT-3 seats from the factory, how does Porsche treat the back seat area? Fior example, are the rear seats deleted and, if so, what then happens to the seatbelts? Is there a storage bin substitute for the rear seat delete? Can someone with this combo post some images please. I want to try to keep the modifications true to what the factory offers/delivers.

    2) Which are preferred: the leather or cloth Clubsport types? and why?

    My dealer is clueless....

    Thanks a lot.

Re: 996TT and GT-3 seats - Euro input needed

    Hi Jeff,

I hope my information helps vou a little:
there are neither belts nor rear-seats in a gt3 with race-seats.
The leather seats are nicer, the others are lighter and "burn-resistant".

If you've got racing-shells installed, you must remove the back seats, probably it's the same in the US.

But why don't you go for carbon-seats, like e.g. Recaro Profi SP-A?
    ( Recaro HP )

They are even lighter and probably not more expensive.

    Regards
    Wolfgang

Re: 996TT and GT-3 seats - Euro input needed

You do not have to remove the rear seats, but almost everyone does. I removed them because of the GT3 clubsport cage that I installed with the seats. I went for the leather because I have the full leather interior and wanted uniformity. The Nomex seats are very cool though, escpecially since they come with a full color embroidered crest. It depends on your car and what you intend to do with it. I went with the GT3 seats instead of the carbon recaros which were actually more money because they were factory, had the logos, were available in leather and could be residualized into my lease. Where are you in the US?

Re: 996TT and GT-3 seats - Euro input needed

Porsche asks for the rear seats to be removed, this is no recommendation but part of the official approval for the GT3 seats. It has something to do with rear passenger safety.
So if somebody gets hurt in the rear (like the teeth "kissing" the hard shell of the front seat), you might have problems with insurance, etc. Not worth it. And yes, even if only the driver seat is a GT3 shell, the rear seats must be removed.

Re: 996TT and GT-3 seats - Euro input needed

Thanks for the input. testdvr - I am in NC USA.

Re: 996TT and GT-3 seats - Euro input needed

That makes sense. Looks better w/o rear seats. In ROW is there an option code for no rear seats?
