I meant 991.2GT3RS. I am trying to gauge what 918 owners would do.

FWIW, I felt the same way about my 991GT3. I gave it up prematurely. However, after seeing the RS in the flesh and on the road I said I have to one. My wife firmly believes I am losing my mind (she was not a big fan of the Gt3 and certainly doesn't understand why I would want the RS). She may be right.indecision

Most non-dealer principal 918 owners are car hogs. Serial car buyers. They will buy basically anything, then drive it for a whole before decided what to do with it.

But some European owners have migrated to Singers after the GT3RS. Seems like that's the car of choice right now. Singers' order book I believe is booked solid for over 2 years now.

Most dealer principal 918 owners for sure will grab one to flip. In the USA they are gods in the eyes of Porsche, they could do nothing wrong, even when flipping cars.

I think the current 991GT3RS is so good on and off the track that it makes the GT3 a redundant car. Everything it does is just a small step behind the GT3RS, heck even for street driving, the RS is better as the wing is high enough to not block rear vision, and the ride itself is good enough for even rough street roads. The GT3RS is like Ferrari, it makes even driving in city traffic exciting, it makes the right sound to touch the soul and makes you feel fast even when going slow.

Porsche did the right thing for the next GT3, gives it a manual gearbox to differentiate it to the RS cars, which shall be PDK-ed only.

If you have a chance to grab the GT3RS at a decent price, do it. You only live once.

    Re: 991 GT3 RS

If Porsche decides not to build a GT3.2RS, I will consider doing that. With the VW fiasco and the estimated cost to rectify the situation, the Board may decide to find hefty profits elsewhere to defray the hit they will be taking thus giving the go ahead to build the RS.2

They are meeting with US Justice and DOT I believe on the 21st this month. There are many in the US government that believe VW doesn't have a an engineering fix and their only out is to either buy back all the affected cars (about 6B Euro) or pay compensation to not only the owners but to the US government  and States for the enhanced smog which overall would be cheaper for VW. However, for that to happen, the Justice dept and DOT must agree to the settlement.

    Re: 991 GT3 RS

just a comment on visibility. obviously forward is not as great in 911' as in the 458 or 650 mclaren where the hood is much lower and you feel much more connected to the road, but it is still ok in the RS. also i was really scared of not having parking sensors and a rear camera in the RS but it turned out to be a no-issue. rear visibility is good and tapping into long-forgotten parking skills just does the job.

aside from that my preliminary analysis concurs with whoopsy: the car is wonderful fun, i am sooooo glad you guys talked me out of flipping it.

I wish my wife had a final saying (and would take care of the financing as well...she could, if she wanted to Smiley), so I would end up in her favorite...the Huracan Spider. Smiley

    Re: 991 GT3 RS

Drove it last week - not very impressed except downshift-noises. Very wide and visibility is bad.....

    IMG_9451.JPG

    Re: 991 GT3 RS

Drove the Huracan (Coupe) only and quite liked it. Of course it doesn't have the visibility of a 911, sitting too low can be an issue though (this can be adjusted) but the width felt OK to me. yes

I like the Huracan because of the whole package incl. emotions, it just feels right for me, it is difficult to explain. My wife claims this car "fits" me perfectly (whatever this means) but she is actually right. The exotic look may be a bit of a turndown for me (I hate attracting too much attention) but in the right color (that blue one you drove is beautiful!) like black or a dark grey, it can be less aggressive and offensive. I have to admit though that if I'd get a Huracan, I would probably get a more flashy color. You live only once, right?

Stupid question: Have you noticed any understeer in the car? Lamborghini apparently corrected the understeer in newer cars. I test-drove one of the first and the understeer was pretty unpleasant because the car was neutral for a pretty long time and then it suddenly "switched" to understeer, something I wasn't too fond of.

Do you have more photos you can share, especially of the interior? Thanks. kiss

The interior is certainly a step up from the Gallordo but still falls well short of the price tag and the competition - which in of itself is not a reason to avoid the car. The real magic is the looks and the sound of the V10 - an umatched combination unless one steps up to a V12.

Smiley No, I don't care about heated seats (but they are surely not a bad thing to have in a Spider Smiley).

I really like the Huracan a lot but I'm a little bit afraid of the consequences of the exotic design.

My neighbor who owns a McLaren 12C Spider is already thinking about returning to the Turbo S Cab (he had one before the McLaren). Only reason? Neighbors and how people "react" to the car. Sad.

I actually don't care that much about neighbors anymore, kids are older as well and their school is far far away but I also don't want to worry about my car every time I park it somewhere and I am fed up with answering questions or replying to compliments (it happens all the time with the...Shelby Smiley), I just want to enjoy my car without anyone noticing. Smiley
