For many years of its life the 928 had the fastest top speed of all car Porsche's sold. Some tests said it had the best high speed directional stability of any car of its era. Considering that the car was designed in the early 70's it was pretty advanced with a front engine/rear transaxle and an interior wich at the time looked like something from a space ship. The engines last forever, but its all of the small interior trim, servo and a/c pieces that will drive your wallet crazy to take care of.

Nostalgia does funny things to people. They see beauty where there is none and suffer memory brainwashing.

Put a CGT next to any of the previous Porsche's and unless you are blind, the CGT would clearly win the beauty contest. Without a doubt the best looking Porsche ever built. Why? Because it is modern looking and does not look like any previous Porsche. They actually spent money on a designer to design it.

Yes, the CGT is a beauty, but I think you have to look at it from a point relative to what you thought of the car when it was introduced. For example, you may think the F430 is beautiful, but when the F355 came out you probably thought it was *drool* B-E-A-utifil!

Nick you are so full of crap! The 928 is just one of a very few cars that were done right , so right, that they are timeless. I go on rides in my area with every other exotic, but mostly ferrari's and only the 360 comes close in terms of beautiful curves. As far as sound nothing matches my custom exhaust.

Nick equates beauty with dollar signs.

In the current issue of Panorama, Michael Mauer the new head of design for Porsche (previously worked for Mercedes, Saab and General Motors Europe Advanced Design) had some comments on the current (and past) selection of cars:

928: "For me the 928 is still an extremely modern car...if you see it on the road it is still so modern."
