Slowest depreciating Porsche ?

This is a follow on post to my previous question Boxter S or Cayman S.

Let me give you all a little more info.

I currently drive a MB CL600 Bi-Turbo which I purchased last August.
The car was a used vehicle and is now 28months old.
It is without question the best car that I have owned, however within the 11 months of ownership I have seen the car depreciate Pounds34k GBP ($61kUS) which has scared the living daylights out of me.
I am looking to bail out now before the new CL hits the deck next year.
I want to get into a different sports car but guarantee I will not take such a heavy hit when it comes to change.
The other problem is, I like to change my car every year, I know I shouldn't but it's like a drug.
My wife drives a Cayenne Turbo which she loves, & that was our first experience of the Porsche brand, which I must add has been a pleasurable experience.

So the question is where to put my money next ?
A 997 C4S ? 997 Turbo ? Boxter S or Cayman S.

Forgot to mention, I am also considering a CLS 55AMG, but I am worried at purchasing another top end MB after my latest experience.

If you're looking at the depreciation factor steer clear of the AMG, despite being brilliant cars they haven't got the following they need in the UK to keep values up longer term.

%age wise I would think the new Turbo would be your best bet, and the one where the straight line performance won't disappoint you after the CL600. But the wait may be too much unless you know a friendly OPC VERY well.

Any of the Porsches are amongst the slowest depreciating in their respective class. The Boxster isn't quite a stable as it used to be, the new 987 is fantastic though. The C4S is probably the worst,just because most used car punters won't want to pay a premium for the 4wd that is charged when new.

The Cayman could be interesting - if you look through the limited sample of responses on this board about it opinion is really split about how it'll do - but Porsche UK are very good at managing supply and demand so they'll keep their values high.

None of these cars will depriciate anything like your CL did - so get out and drive a couple and see what you like....

i also lost a lot of money so far on my SL55, but i'm keeping it because it's really a beautiful car.
IMO, i think any new current porsche (except the CGT) will lose it's value quick, i mean look at the 996 turbo, that car's value has dropped like words cannot describe!

In terms of slow depreciating.... it has to be the Boxster S
as it has the lowest initial purchase of all those cars. It is also a stunning car to drive, although u will it lacking in straight line speed, compared to what u r use to.... 997 turbo may be ur only viable option as I am sure u will miss the acceleration...
I too have gone from a faster car (Evo VIII FQ-340) to slower car (987S) and I do miss the thrill of the acceleration...Just bear that in mind....

yes, I fully appreciate that I may miss (no will miss) the power of the 600 which is effortlessly fast.
I just can't bear the thought of how much PoundsPoundsPounds I have blown away in 11 months.

It sounds crazy, but I don't mind putting an extra Pounds50k into a 997 Turbo as long as I don't end up in a similar situation again.

When is the best time to get into a used 911 turbo ?
I would guess at 3 years old.

If you lived int he US and depreciation was a concern, I would advise you not to buy a Porsche. They all depreciate fast and Porsche accelerates the depreciation by introducing variations of existing models to compete with the ones it has already sold. They rationalize this by stating they are selling to a different market.

Living in the UK where apparently depreciation isn't a serious issue, I probably would buy the 997 TT. I believe or hope Porsche learned its lesson based on what it did with the 996 TT. But then again, this company is all about maximizing profit regardless of the negative impact on their customer base.

That in a nut shell is why I will not buy another Porsche unless they changed the way they do business.

Depreciation really hits hard when you keep swapping up for the next new modle every two years , its the nature of us human beings we screw ourselves and car manufacturers know this..

Sirees:
I cant help noticing you write that you want "another sportscar".
Not to be disrespectful of Mercedes or your taste in cars, but if you buy a Porsche (or Ferrari) you might realize a couple of positive things:
a) You will get more fun for your $$$ in a(ny) Porsche than your MB.
b) You will get a car that corners at much higher speeds and handles a whole lot better (when it somes to sporty driving) than the MB - hence you wont necessarily need all those BHP's and thus you will probably need to invest a lot less in your next car and still get a lot more fun.

So if I were you I'd check out the Boxster s and the 997 s..
If you are still keen on more power check out the GT2 or perhaps 996TT.
Go for a used model of the latter two if you wanna minimize loss.

get a porsche if you want one, but don't count on minor depreciation. those times are over.

i don't expect a long waiting list for the 997 turbo either (as it was the case with the 996 TT when new, but back then they only could produce 3000 TT's/year, but they've increased capacities).

I have been quoted 12 months wait for a new 997TT, There are one or two used 997 Carrera S available or a 2 year old 996TT which is catching my eye, but I have been advised that the 996TT will lose approx Pounds10k in the next 12 months, but the 997CS will be less.

Did you use the Porsche Reading Dealership ? and if so what are they like to deal with , any good ? ..

I was quoted 9 months in Cardiff but a demo Boxter S is available to buy now.

If 9 months is average (sounds a bit high to me) then you should be able to get more than 37k you would think

Yeah but only if you sell it private, which you would be daft not to do anyway.

Chuck it in the autotrader at Pounds40-42k and see what bites I reckon it would sell.

I've gone for a 996 Turbo, negotiated a Pounds7k discount on price which i'm pleased with.
I should get into it by the end of the week.

Be interesting to see if that shifts it... A few people have previously commented on how hard it is to shift young Porsches outside of the dealer network. People like to have the comfort factor when they're spending that much cash. But the new model, plus the long waiting time may entice...
