Re: Porsche DVD Entertainment System - Updated Info

I looks nicely integarted but still , my recomendation is a portable one since factory DVD kits are a rip off and much less verstaile.

You can get instead a portable DVD player that is:
    - much smaller,
    - you can switch from one car to another car.
    - you can take them along with you and the pasengers can continue viewing what were watching after you left the car, or use it in other situations beides in-car like on airplanes for example, or even hook it up to a larger TV.
    - with more options, like MPEG-4 compatibility for Divx videos, or for more mediums like re-writable DVD-RWs were you can back up movies from your computer repeatedly to, etc.
    - and for a much cheaper price, around one third the price.

Here is the best model in the market right now for example, the Woxter Sierra 70, its really small compared to others, compatible with everything (Divx, DVD, VCD, SVCD formats and rewritable CD and DVD mediums), comes with lithium battery, car charger adapter cable, remote control, carrying bag, adapter bag for headrest of car, etc.
I have one of these and works great, I can recomend it.

Its another option to look into, just my 2 cents

Re: Porsche DVD Entertainment System - Updated Info

I agree Carlos. The OEM DVD systems are way too expensive IMO. You can get a pretty decent hometheatre system instead for the 5200 euros the Cayenne system costs.

I use the Next Base DVD in my car with great success, and it only costs about 400 euros. And when my daughter gets old enough to start watching movies, I'll just buy another one, so that my kids have one each. And we don't get any arguments about what they are going to watch in the backseat

    In-car picture. (press picture)

Re: Porsche DVD Entertainment System - Updated Info

I like it very much ,but it's too expencive! 5000 USD for a dvd ?
I like how they put the videos on the back of the seets ....like Techart cayenne.

Re: Porsche DVD Entertainment System - Updated Info

but its OEM, thats gotta be worth something

Re: Porsche DVD Entertainment System - Updated Info

We used to use a "standard" Laptop (16") between the frontseats for kids behind. The screen is wide enough while using two earsets.
Ok, not OEM, but no more money to spend ...

Re: Porsche DVD Entertainment System - Updated Info

I own the Maxfield (this is the name of this unit in Germany) as a "backup" DVD player for vacations, plane, etc.
It works well and it can automatically switch regions, it isn't limited to one DVD region only. A great thing for me as I own lots of region 1 (US) DVDs.

The system I have in our Cayenne Turbo is from SONY, it comes with a small DVD unit and a TFT screen with an attachment arm for the headrest of the front seats.
It works pretty well, it comes with a infrared earphone, picture quality is great too and the install was a 5 minute job because the DVD "headunit" fits the open rear armrest perfectly. Cost? Around 600 Euro as far as I remember. And I doubt it is inferior to the Porsche system.
Porsche should be family friendly and offer this system at a more attractive price tag. I'd say that 1500 Euro or 1500 USD would be just right and I bet they would still make some money on it.

The European price for the Tequipment retrofit is 2950Euro +MwSt, the extra screen is 1290Euro +MwSt.
The retrofit is cheaper than ordering the system as an option but is still more than double of what you would like to spend RC

Re: Porsche DVD Entertainment System - Updated Info

I paid 600 Euro for the SONY system and the install job took me 10 minutes. I don't see any advantage of the Porsche system over "my" system. But I still think that 1500 Euro would be worth paying for an "integrated" system. I know, I know...still dreaming...
