    2007 Boxster S actual BHP = 310 ?

    I have been told that the new 2007 MY Boxster S has around 300-310 BHP when measured, and not just 295 as stated.
    Is this just a normal Porsche thing - that the cars have a bit more power than stated? Or is the 3.4 litre special in this regard?

    Let me know if anyone has read about this, or perhaps even had their own 3.4 litre 987S dyno'ed.

    It has always been said that "Porsche understates" it's advertised power. Realistically I am not sure but during the factory tour they stated that each engine will have a different output but no less than advertised and only to be kept within a certain set of numbers. So for example a 295 hp '07 987S could have anywhere from 295 Minimum advertised hp to 310 maximum allowable hp.

    I don't think I ever seen hard facts or sources saying which it really is though.

    Plan on dyno testing my coming 07S eventually. The instructions of keeping revs below 4-4.5K for a 2K mile engine "break-in" period seem to prevent dyno testing for at least a short while.

    During our factory collection, the guide told us that the 3.4 is almost always above 300bhp.

    Ha, I love it! I will dyno test mine with and without the PSE on (after 2000Ks).

    I've seen several 987S dyno'd and they all gave 276-280bhp.

    At the same time a 986S with a recon engine gave 250, with awful power curve in the last 1500 rpms.

    Porsche get the power pretty spot on to the stated figures- they have tight tolerances to ensure no 'hot' ones, or under performers get out to customers.

    that the he was told at the factory that engine HP is within +/- 5% of published specs....310HP is 5% more than the published 295HP for a 2007 987S.

    When I collected mine (albeit back in 1999) I was told on the factory tour that legally the engines had to be +/-5% of the stated output but all Porsche units were in the 0 to +5% band

    This rule is said to be true up to date according to what Porsche personnel explains during the factory tour (engines not reaching the advertised hp number would not be implanted in the car, whereas a small + is tolerated).
    However - as you said - due to legal reasons such tolerable + is limited. Of course we can assume that any other carmaker would have launched a 300 hp version rather than a 295 hp version

    VW Audi group are famed for their actual values being more than the stated figure - they regard them as minimums - diesels in particular can be well over 10% up on stated figures
