    who hate the stop watch???

i have read many posts that it seems many people dont really like the stop watch comes with the chrono..

but why is that?.. i think it looks fine somehow.. umm..

anyone got pictures of the instrument dials at night?

Re: who hate the stop watch???

Who hate the stopwatch? I hate the stopwatch. Me want sport without chrono - then I might have ordered it.

Re: who hate the stop watch???

i mean why you hate the stop watch??

Re: who hate the stop watch???

It's amazing how many more people hate that watch versus like it. I wonder how it ever got passed the Porsche approval process. You would think there would have been an overwhelming majority of people there who would have said, "just what the heck is that wart? That's ugly. It's going to be controversial". But, to me, the other features of the sport chrono option outweigh the looks of the stopwatch.

It just looks awful. Ruins the lines of the dash totally, no attempt at all has been made to integrate it. If the stop watch needs to be there why not engineer it so that it stows away flush with the dash top when not needed? As it stands it looks like a teenage kid bought a cheap after market gauge and stuck it on the dash with blue-tak. I would have to look at it more than I would use the undoubted benefits of the sharpened handling etc, so thanks, but no thanks.

Re: who hate the stop watch???

In my humble 2c opinion.... because it's plain ugly. It annihilates the line of the dashboard in an otherwise aesthetically pleasing vehicle (let's ignore the door handles and the instrument font for now, since they are negligible in their visual impact compared to the stop watch). The stop watch itself serves zero practical purpose in my car. I could enjoy the throttle adjustments provided by the sports setting just as well without the watch.

Alright I'm biased (can't study and practice architecture without adopting some of the design mantras, however arbitrary)... I'm definitely guilty of basing my car acquisitions on looks AND performance.

/edit: Will see if I can get some pictures taken of the dashboard at night.

Re: who hate the stop watch???

i think the only purpose of the stop watch is to tell other you got the sport chrono package...

Re: who hate the stop watch???

its for boy racers who hv upgraded from a WRX with lots of aftermarket gauges (most of which they DONT use) to a boxster and still wanna hv that rice boy feel...

and yes, my car does NOT hv it.
I control the throttle response with my foot. and if I want some slip when cornering, I turn off PSM.

Problem solved. money saved goes towards a holiday.

Well maybe it's a substitute for that ghastly aerokit that Porsche customers who had more money than taste used to fit on the 986 Boxster.

Re: who hate the stop watch???

    Funny,
I think I'm the only one who actually likes it.
But not white in a black interior, stands out too much, but black on black looks nice IMO.
BTW, can you rotate it to hide it in its shell like a little turtle?
Saw one without it the other day and got so used too it, that to me, it looked like something was missing.

You can swivel it slightly but, no, you can't rotate it to the point that it can hide in it's shell.

Re: who hate the stop watch???

I been driving my new S wtih Sport Chrono for 2 days now, I just can't stop playing with the stop watch I think it is so cool! I like the way the needle go back to zero, it is almost like the needle in a Swatch MusiCall. At night I turn on the stop watch because I like the light.

Re: who hate the stop watch???

Have to say I like it too in black on Black, but then I like gadgets & though nice if it flipped down & up again, so what! Also like to see the 2.7 dash at night with chrono.

Re: who hate the stop watch???

I hate it too. When I made a complaint about it to Porsche, I've been told that somebody from "high up" in the Porsche leadership wanted this watch at ANY cost. So now we have it.

Re: who hate the stop watch???

hate it. they should have offered sport without the stopwatch.
the engine map would have been nice to have but not if i have to have some wart looking device on my dash.

I knew it! Whoever this person "high up" is, this person has no f'ing taste. Probably related to that Chris Bungle guy from BMW. Ok, I'm calm now.

Re: who hate the stop watch???

I hate it because THE WART is the first thing people will ask about when they get into the car.

I would have to explain to everybody "it is for timing laps on the track." Then they would ask facetiously, "since when have you become the race car driver?"

Next thing you know, within ten seconds, I'm identified as a frickin' POSER!

Then they might go on and ask a second question.

STUUUUUPID thing. I ordered my 997S without Sport chrono because I hate it.

Re: who hate the stop watch???

Luckily, most people I've given rides to don't even bother to ask what the wart is for. They're just happy to ride in the 997 to begin with and are too busy observing other things, like the handling and acceleration, and just the overall experience of riding in a Porsche. My father-in-law who is the biggest complainer didn't even complain about the clock. He complained about the poor quality of the seat belts.

Yes, you're probably right. I exaggerated; the darn thing IS so prominent though, dang!

Re: who hate the stop watch???

Nobody's remarked on the Chrono in my car, but I hate it. I only got it because I wanted the sport button. Very annoying of Porsche to do this to us.

I wish they would have given us the option to have some other, more useful gauge instead of the chronograph. If it had been an Oil Temp/Oil Pressure gauge, I might have been less adverse to having the wart. At least then it would be useful.

A chronograph that I have to manually start and stop is ridiculous. You can't get any serious lap timing out of that!
