    PCM-nav version history?

    Hello!

I'm about to buy a used 997S which have PCM-nav. The car is from august 2004 and I have some concerns regarding if I need to upgrade the nav-disc and/or patch to newer software?

I know that mp3 was introduced on May 2005 cars which cant be retrofitted. I've also heard that TMC is available with a newever version.

So the conclusion of my question is if someone can list the updgrades to the Nav-module since 07/2004 until cars built today?

Also wonder when/if there was any major upgrades to the European-DVD with maps? I've heard that this update is about 400EUR and do you know when this upgrade was made and if there are only minor changes? Is it worth the update? Maybe there will come a new version in the upcoming months and I perhaps should wait for this?

Will porsche "patch" the pcm to newer software version for free at the same time that I have my car in for the first service perhaps? Any experiences here?

    /Lukas

Porsche don't do "free". I had the "free" PCM upgrade for the TMC (which is very good here in the UK) but had to pay GBP400 for the 08/2005 disc in order that it would all work.
We also get partial post-code search when inputting destinations, but it is a half-baked affair compared with an Alpine or Pioneer system - it only allows inputting the first half of a postcode then you have to search for which street you want from a list. I suppose it is quicker than entering the full street name, but only marginally so. The latest DVD has better graphics, but it's no big deal.

Most things can be retrofitted if you want to change sufficient components and have enough money.

Porsche technical say it can't be done. My OPC says it can't be done. RC says it can't be done. I guess the only way would be to purchase a whole new PCM but that would be stupid money for what you'd gain.

    Re: PCM-nav version history?

    Thanks for the input dreamcar

Yeah, what a fool I am to think that porsche make such an upgrade for free... 400Pounds is rather steep for a new map I think but if the graphics are better and the TMC is added simultaneous, it might be worth it. I will give it a thought though. But maybe I'm waiting for the 2006/08 upgrade instead...
