    OT-do NOT drive fast in town area...

    Zagreb,Croatia-today 5.45am
    Jaguar S-Type R driver lost control because overspeeding in 50km/h area(he was driving more then 150km/h says report) and lost control over vehicle, first hitting the traffic light then rotating 360* and hitting the tree... Front passanger died immediately because he was not using seat belt. Driver(Russian bussinessman) sustained critical injuries and was taken to the hospital. He is still in critical condition and doctors are still fighting for his life-prognosses are not good... Back seat passanger also sustained heavy injuries but, he is not in critical condition.
    Police were shocked with the scene and traffic was closed for over 3 hours... Police CSI will determin actual cause of accident...

    Cars and travel modes represent a series of risk/reward judgements....

    Would rather argue it's a case for not choosing to ride w/an irresponsible driver, even if belted-up in a new 997TT/S65....

    Also debatable whether victory in such unfortunate situations is surviving such a crash w/a remaining life of likely permanent disabilities/chronic pain....or instantaneous death.....

    So sad, the driver screws up and the poor passenger gets its. It' amazing, 150 KM while may not be that fast on a city street it can be deadly. Our thoughts and prayers with the family of the man who lost his life

    Update-apparently driver was under influence of controlled stuff... Can you imagine that [censored]-he was brave enough to drive(Fast!) in that condition. He is still in coma and in critical condition. BTW, first Police report says that driver was overspeeding at least 100km/h above limit(60km/h) and that road was wet. Also all three of then were returning from AMEX Platinum VIP party at one of the Zagreb's nightclubs... If you are stupid NO airbags of seatbelts can save you I guess...

    I can't help thinking of the phrase 'You make your own luck'.

    A shame things like this happen, but at least nobody else (i.e. not in the car) was injured/ killed.

    In the past I would have chosen instantaneous death. After looking at the lives of, say, Christopher Reeve and Frank Williams, I believe a person, if willing, motivated and self-disciplined, can still pursue goals, share experiences, and, of course, spend precious time on RennTeam.

    Valid points. The passenger should have known what he was getting himself into, but still - he was just a passive bystander. Regarding the speed, 160 km/h on an empty four-lane avenue isn't very dangerous by itself, but add alcohol or drugs, and you get some very unpleasant results.
    Well, off I go to Germany. Hopefully I won't run into such an [censored] on the way there...
