    Re: 918

In the US, the strain of corn being grown for ethanol isn't quite food grade corn, so it isn't taking away from food production.

There is another strain that's being grown for feedstock, and food grade strain only make up a small percentage, no point growing more if the demand isn't there. Outside of eating corn on the cob, turning it into corn flour or corn meal, making corn oil, there isn't much use for corn as food, so it really doesn't matter on the high food price scenario.

As for the 918, it is a waste to just use it to turtling around in city traffic, so whenever I have these big road trips I am always tempted to bring it out. The car is surprisingly good range wise in hybrid mode on the highway, it will easily do 7-800km a tank even with a smallish 70 litre tank.

Not taking the gf but my buddy who did the vegas drive with me, so the front trunk is already big enough for both of us with a carry on size each, and still have room behind the passenger seat to hang a couple jackets.

    Re: 918

4 and half month later, the trip will be starting tomorrow morning!

4 days and 3 nights drive to Indy.

General routing will be I90 East, with Hwy 212 connector in Montana then back onto I90. Then cut across to I80 at Sioux Falls/Sioux City and then I74 for the home stretch.

Will cross Washington, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, South Dakota, think I might touch Nebraska but not sure if I do crossed over. Iowa next, Illinois then finally Indiana.

Think each night we stay over we will lost an hour due to crossing timezones, so will go from PST all the way to EST when we hit indy.

Right now the planned stopover will be Butte Montana, Rapid City South Dakota and Des Moines Iowa.

Could change depending on how much we can cover a day.

That will be an epic trip ! I would love to cross some day those ''indian'' states.

    Re: 918

Don’t be too sure about crossing those “indian” states as most are quite monotonous ribbons of asphalt with a parade of semi trucks forming congo lines for miles and miles and miles.  Very little of that ride to Indianapolis will have landscapes found in an old western movie.  It is just barren land punctuated with fast food restaurants and truck stops.

Drove past Idaho. I thought it’s only full of potato farms, never knew it hides such a beautiful spot, Coeur d’Alene.

l90 across Montana isn’t too clogged with trucks, or cars for that matters. It’s a beautiful highway in a river valley. Tall trees on either side, if I didn’t know I would have thought I was back home in British Columbia.

Empty landscapes is what I would like to see. But maybe better to take B roads. Trucks would be a pain.

Actually the landscape is awesome and in many cases breathtaking. The scale is hard to comprehend.  Mostly you don’t see any traffic.  Certainly not enough to get in the way - lol.  You can it in the pictures Whoopsy sent - do you see a lot of traffic or boring scenery?  Some never have much positive information to relay.

    Re: 918

Idaho and Montana is not the same as the Dakotas with the area called the Bad Lands.  Every time one has traversed that area and through Minnesota it was a boring stretch with truck traffic.  Perhaps it is more akin to your tastes, not mine and there is a reason certain parts of the this country are called flyover country.

    Re: 918

Perhaps other will watch this nearly 3 hour, probably more like scan through it, of a drive through South Dakota on. I-90 as it is one of the monotonous videos ever uploaded to YouTube. https://youtu.be/FColqfK5g40  There is plenty of great scenery in that state but it is not found on I-90.

    Re: 918

We didn’t quite make Butte Montana as planned and stopped at Missoula instead for the night. Heavy traffic and road constructions in Washington.

Sort of worked out, as had we stayed in Butte we would have bolted for the freeway first thing. Drove a couple hours and reach Butte, did some touristy thing

Sorry for the sinewy pic, on iPad. (fixed ! )

Turns out the car is more of an attraction than the pit itself, which was already impressive, after they stopped mining in the pit 40 yrs ago, it got filled up with ground water, and the depth of water is over 1000 ft!

    0B143681-2233-4E4B-B440-77B18599D3AE.jpeg

just as we left a tour bus arrived and all the people cared about was who is drive the 2mil Porsche. I had to answer questions from about 15 people.

The rest of the day was spent trying to cross Montana. Trying is the key word. I had no idea how big and vast Montana is. It’s a totally beautiful state. I90 isn’t a boring highway, curves, hills, and mostly empty! Heaven for the 918. Semis? Maybe one second total for the passing, well maybe 2. Did a pass on 4 semis in a train in no time.

Took hwy 212 instead of sticking to Interstate, that’s even more of a heavenly road, while only single lane, it is literally empty, we went on for 10 15 mins at a time without seeing another car. That route took us out of Montana, through a bit of Wyoming and then South Dakota. I too pics of each state but all of them looks pretty much the same. Same sort of landscape with yellow hayfields and hills on the background, but the road is definitely not flat.

we cut back to I90 eventually when in South Dakota, and we saw the sign for Sturgis, we literally made the exit last moment. We had to visit the biker town. Had dinner there and the ended up in Rapid City for the night.

Gonna take a slight back track to head to Mount Rushmore first in the morning. We are 20 mins away and had to go.

scheduled end point for tomorrow is Des Moines Iowa.

5 states done. 3 more to go.

And I am not even kidding about the same landscape for 3 states. First one is Montana, second is Wyoming, third is South Dakota. All along Hwy 212.

just under 1300 miles done, 1150 to go for the next couple days.

Right now, we are averaging 24 mpg. I dare anyone to find anything remotely comparable. And I haven’t even plug it in to charge up since I left home.

Talkning about charging, after we left Spokane, we haven’t seen a single Tesla, or EV for that matters. Not even charging spots. Towns in Montana are like 100 miles apart. No joke. In between it’s like absolutely nothing.

I haven’t even reach the heart of the mid west yet…

But for the 5 states I have been through, the landscape is IMPRESSIVE!

Montana especially. It really reminds me of British Columbia my home state.

But the scale of everything is beyond my comprehension right now. I literally can drive for 10-15 mins  at 90-100mph and do not see anything but vast country side. I may see a farm to the side, but the farmhouse is like a couple miles off the highway, and the hill beyond could be a good 50 miles away.

I literally spent a day driving though Montana at 90-100 mph. If I do that in Europe at that speed, I might have cross 6 countries if not more. USA is vast!

I know I went through the wrong part of Wyoming. Didn’t get to see Yellowstone, but I do planned on returned in an RV for that.

Yes bud, as of right now my route does take me through KC sorry.

Will see what route I am raking on the return trip.čśÇ

I wanted to go west through Colorado Springs to visit friends and then perhaps LA to visit family and I5 straight up.

Fantastic photos Nick, and stories to.

I love roadtripping. Basically any car and good company will do, so I can put myself in your shoes. To do this in the 918 is only a bonus. The car ages so well and its presence in real life is way beyond photos.

Enjoy the rest of the tour wink
