    Real Brakes for 1-series BMW?

    Sounds like BMW finally intends to ditch the 1-piston units for 6-piston brakes on the 135i:

    The 135i Coupe offers more performance and a striking look thanks to M-inspired

    reduced body roll with 18-inch wheels and performance tires. The Sports Suspension also
    includes with a high-performance brake system incorporating six-piston fixed calipers on the
    front and two-piston fixed calipers at the rear."

    wow...and they would do that on 135i and not on the new M3?!?

    I think the 135i will blow the M3 away if you just tune the ECU (for example Vishnu). The engine is super conservative in it's tune from the factory. The only thing that may hold it back is the lack of a "real" LSD. I am not sure what these electronic LSD are really like. Anyone know? Is there another vehicle out there with similar system?

    Not sure no. of pistons necessarily translates to competent brakes....

    Drive any new L (even w/optional ?$15Kish ceramics), and one quickly realizes (even on public mtn twisties) how incompetent are their brakes vs 599 CCM/997TT PCCB/CL63.....

    Some mfrs clearly have incompetent brake engineers, no matter price point of car/profitability of optional ceramic brakes....

    They are terrible in my opnion. No substitute at all for a real LSD. Porsche has one (ABD)...

    Absolutely. Vishnu www.vishnutuning.com will give you cheap HP and where I live (high altitude) the turbo motor will make MUCH more power than the V8 in the M3 (which loses over 20% of its power at altitude) to go with the lighter weight of the 1-series chassis.

    Hopefully an LSD (or at least Quaife-style torque biasing diff) can be fitted aftermarket...
