    Re: 992 Sport Classic

I think it's interesting that Porsche decided to be honest about the displacement of this motor (3.7L).  I initially thought it was somehow reduced from the Turbo and Turbo S models, but those are both really 3.7L also.  For some reason, they've been calling them 3.8L when the displacement is 3,745cc yes

    Yeah, me.

I don’t get the big number on the door of these, or the Targa, or Speedster. I understand the history, but two thumbs down on that from me.

    Haha oh boy.

What about the lack of stripes on the last car?

Why not just pull out the old, tired, Martini livery again, and call it a day.

PTS is apparently not available with the stripes (unless maybe you're a Piech or Porsche or Whoopsy family member???).  The four standard colours come with the stripes, which are actually painted on the hood, roof, and ducktail, while the sides are done with optional decals.  So the photo is correct.

When the 997 sport classic came out, it was called a '' parts bin '' and not considered special enough. Lots of criticism.

Today it is highly valued, just look at the prices .

Same will happen with this car.

Reminds me of the old N/A E63 V8 which was 6208cc, strangely always bugged me a little but as we know Merc took it to a different level when they kept th 63 moniker for the 4.0 lumps Smiley

Lovely. I agree, get rid of that cheesy decal on the side and I‘d be a happy customer.

Back then, there were rumours of using the GT3 engine in the Sport Classic, right? That would‘ve made the car more special.

The 992 iteration after all has a drivetrain configuration that is unique in the line-up. At least for now. Knowing Porsche I‘d be curious if they will use it in another model.

    Nonetheless, great car.

Right. People were disappointed that the GT3 engine was not used but instead it was only a Carrera S with X51option  engine. Nothing you could not get in the 997 range.

With this 992, the engine is more special. It is even unique, considering it comes marched with a manual transmission.

Unless of course if Porsche decides to „ramp up“ the ordinary Turbos with a RWD version to get speculation  prices down…by the way, it seems some „people“ are just buying cars on production numbers…remember the famous all black 991 edition nobody actually wanted them, now, these command higher prices than the same ordinary specced 991 without the all black badge…

Indeed, as you both wrote, it is the combination of detuned 3.7L engine - Manual gearbox - RWD that makes the drivetrain (more so than the standalone engine) unique. It also seems the exhaust has been tweaked compared to the Turbo and Turbo S Smiley.

    Re: 992 Sport Classic

I tried to buy a sport classic, put a blank order in almost a year ago. At that moment I was already number 4 at my dealer. Understood now from the dealer he will get only one car, where with the 991 Spider he got 4! I do not understand this limited series of cars. Porsche could sell much more of these cars and since the price is so high make much more money. With the strategy of limited cars, they piss of a lot of customers. If you can get such a car you need to sign an agreement that you do not sell the car with one year. Would it not be easier (and more profitable for Porsche) to just make more cars this would immediately stop the speculation on these cars. So the cars can be used why they are made for to drive and to collect in order to make money.

    Re: 992 Sport Classic

Same story at my dealer, four people interested, one car available. I happen to know the 'lucky one'. True passionate guy luckily.

Got told that some dealers might get two.

    Re: 992 Sport Classic

Is the Sport Classic another Porsche project ? Back when they told you only 991 911 R's will be built and later on, 992 GT3 / GT3 Touring with manual was available for the public to order.

    Re: 992 Sport Classic

    I would not be surpised

    Re: 992 Sport Classic

That’s what I wrote in this thread already before - it is just a great invitation for Porsche to enhance its TURBO range with a RWD and perhaps, add a different clientele to this model range…

    Re: 992 Sport Classic

The Turbo Leichtbau-Paket could be offered with RWD as a Turbo Sport model.

At present this package costs €10.000. The RWD version could cost less with the removal of the AWD hardware.

Will a 50 aniversary Carrera  RS come too? Or this will be it? As we are seeing the Carrera RS next to this Sport Classic in many promotional photos...

    Re: 992 Sport Classic

Two more Heritage models are due as per the Sports Classic press release. Expect these next year:

992 Dakar to celebrate the only 911 to ever win the Dakar rally in 1984

    992 60th Anniversary 911. Limited to 1,963 units
