    FRONT PUMPER DIFFERENCES BETWEEN MODELS!

WELL i ve noticed through my last visit to my dealer that in the 997 there are variations in front pumber

some have a cover in the middle and some not,Thos who havent leave vision clear to see a huge center air cooler

Why is this happening and what do cars with the cover have inside the cover?

Before you say it is an S or non-S matter or a manufactures year matter read the following:

    I saw the following cars

1)a 997(non-S) 2004 build WITHOUT cover and the center cooler
    2)a 997(non-S) 2005 build(mine) WITH cover
    3)a 997 S 2005 build WITH cover
    4)a 997 S cabriolet WITHOUT cover

What do u conclude? Your car has it or not?

Re: FRONT PUMPER DIFFERENCES BETWEEN MODELS!

tips have the extra cooler therefore no cover.

Re: FRONT PUMPER DIFFERENCES BETWEEN MODELS!

drdrilz i think you are right !!!!

    look to this:

1)a 997(non-S) 2004 build WITHOUT cover and the center cooler - TIPTRONIC!
    2)a 997(non-S) 2005 build(mine) WITH cover MANUAL
    3)a 997 S 2005 build WITH cover MANUAL
    4)a 997 S cabriolet WITHOUT cover TIPTRONIC!!

    YOU ARE CORRECT!!

Re: FRONT PUMPER DIFFERENCES BETWEEN MODELS!

BUT THIS CENTER COOLER IS REALLY HUGE SO MUCH COOL NEEDED FOR TIPTRONIC?

    AND LOOKS REALLY AGGRESIVE!!

ITS BIGGER THAN THE ENGINE COOLERS

So what does drdrilz get now???

Re: FRONT PUMPER DIFFERENCES BETWEEN MODELS!

a new 998 but becuase its not launched yet hell have to wait!!!

Re: FRONT PUMPER DIFFERENCES BETWEEN MODELS!

    ill settle for a cookie!

Re: FRONT PUMPER DIFFERENCES BETWEEN MODELS!

My car is a 997 (non-S, 6 speed manual gearbox) and I have the thing. Also I did hit a rabbit a couple of months ago and when I replaced the front bumper I noticed the same thing: there are separate part numbers for tiptronic and non-Tiptronic front bumpers.

Here is my supposition: because the Tiptronic is heavier, maybe they take out that part to increase downforce in the front. I also know for a fact that in that place a more powerful 997 like the GT3 will have an extra radiator (at least that's the case for the 996 GT3).

And one more thing: if look at the drag coefficient the 997S one is higher than the 997 one. And the S is also heavier than the 997. That should prove my point I hope.

Re: FRONT PUMPER DIFFERENCES BETWEEN MODELS!

Pentium i m afraid you are wrong

    1st because:

The Tiptronics dont have the middle cover and they already have a huge iddle radiator(thats what we are saying)its not that the cover is missing its a huge radiator(cooler)instead.
@nd downforce cannot be increased because due to the presence of the radiator this hole in not "working" as aerokit(meaning pressing the air to control and apply more downforce).

As for the 997S the coefficient is 0,29 compared to the 997 (which is 0,28) but thats mainly happening -notdue to the more weight (which is very little)- because of the larger tires 295 (19") and the bigger resistence the car findis on the road surface.

Also i believe you cannot deal the higher weight by simply adding some downforce to the front.

Dont mean to play smart guy but your assumption is wrong.:(

Manual transmissions are more mechanically efficient than torque converter-type auto transmissions. That is, an auto box car turns more of the engine's power into heat, which has to be transferred out of the car through the radiator(s). Which is why a Tiptronic car needs more radiator capacity than the equivalent manual tranny version.

The GT3 has the additional radiator because the engine is just more powerful than a standard 911. More useful power also means more useless heat having to be transferred out of the car.

Re: FRONT PUMPER DIFFERENCES BETWEEN MODELS!

fritz whydid you metnion the manual as tranny??

and from where does this word come?

I got lazy (again), and abbreviated "manual transmission" to "manual tranny". Sorry if it detracted from the clarity of the post.

Re: FRONT PUMPER DIFFERENCES BETWEEN MODELS!

    tranny is abbreviaiton for transmission
    or for tiptronic?

The word "transmission" ís frequently used interchangeably with "gearbox", regardless of whether a manual or automatic gearbox is being referred to.

So "tranny" could be a casual or "slang" reference to any kind of gearbox, and not necessarily limited in use to a specific type of gearbox/transmission. But "transmission" is more commonly used for automatic transmissions, probably because it is also more commonly used than "gearbox" in the USA, where automatic transmissions are almost universal in domestic products.

I hope this clarifies more than it further confuses the situation.

Re: FRONT PUMPER DIFFERENCES BETWEEN MODELS!

Just be careful not to click on "hot tranny action" kind of links

Re: FRONT PUMPER DIFFERENCES BETWEEN MODELS!

Thank you for the info Dilinger and Fritz.

It's obvious that I misunderstood what was all about (after all english it's not my native language).

I was thinking that the cover it's missing or not. I didn't understood that in fact was about replacing it with a radiator.

Now, I completely agree with you guys.
