    Strange 997 Oil Filter Part Numbers

    Why are the last two numbers on my replacement oil filter different from the filter that's in the car?

    The first three sets of three numbers are the same:

    996 107 225 52 (replacement)

    vs.

    996 107 225 53 (original)

    You did well - i just took out a '52' and inserted a '60' !!

    I'd assumed the 60 was a later version number, but maybe not. The two filters looked identical except the new one had small 'felt' washers/rings attached at either end of the cylinder

    I bet you are right, the last two numbers indicate version and specific manufacturer, or other particular information.

    IOW, as long as the first 9 numbers are the same the parts are "identical."

    Was the same way for another part I had to get, same 9 numbers and two different ones.

    Sounds logical anyway... .
