    RC, I am going to go super-optimistic and speculate that the EU and US emissions regulators will finally realize that these small displacement turbo motors are just another, more subtle, less VW-eggregious approach to getting around their regulations. And they will hopefully switch to ways of measuring emissions and consumption that better reflect real-world usage, and develop new regulations whereby NA motors will be at less of a disadvantage than these turbo motors.

    Too much to hope for? 

     

    According to our engineering source(s) at Porsche and BMW, it will get even worse. New (more restrictive) regulations are planned since the VW scandal woke up politicians and the public. I'm afraid we are going to have some very bad surprised over the next 10 years or so (and of course beyond) and it also seems that many car manufacturers will try to concentrate on electric mobility and less on maximizing performance. With some luck, cars are going to get lighter (and very likely not cheaper Smiley) but I doubt that hp monsters and good sounding cars will have a future. Enjoy it while you can. Smiley

    I just cannot think of another solution than Turbo charged....- the 3.8 Liter is at it's max - the 4.0 could be a solution but would probably piss-off a lot of RS owners and 997RS4.0 owners - and just reducing 20-30 KGs will probably not move a lot of Wood.... - Turbo charged could be lot of mid-range gain and maybe a overboost button ? Electric Turbo etc etc.... - would Porsche produce a new NA engine for just +/- 2000 cars ?

    That would bring the .2 GT3 very, very close to the current RS and the futur R .  A bit confusing .

    RC did mention that the Gt3.2 could well be NA , but that it would be the last one .

    I can imagine Porsche will try to move very slowly away from the NA in the GT cars........ so another batch would very well be possible, and then , once people got mure used to have turbo in the whole range, GT with turbo will appear in the next generation

    Given there seem to be no additional air inlets/outlets on this GT3 it speaks against turbo charging.

    If they use the 4.0 engine , it would mean that the current RS + R + the .2 GT3 have basically the same engine . Thus bringing these 3 cars very close to each other .

    Seems like the natural step to me. Porsche can't release a new GT3 which is "less" than the predecessors (RS and special versions included).

    After reading thread on rennlist about 991.2 GT3 mule pics I am truly supriesed that nobody there noticed that mule is wearing winter tires. Offical winter wheels for 991 GT3 are the same as for 991.1 Turbo (CLs).

    Car is having new front design and updated engine/suspension/PDK-S. An early 991.2 GT3 mule.

    Must admit I was (selfishly) hoping for a turbo, but who's to say it even needs much of a power bump?  It's not as if they won't sell without one.. I'd be really surprised if it got a 4.0 - surely the extra heat would need the RS' intakes?

    Those intakes don't affect the heat - just give a power bump at high road speeds.  Adding the 4.0L with a small power decrease from the RS is the easiest way to give a 20hp increase and increase reliability (if some rumors are true).

    Really too soon to know.  But seems likely that 991.1 GT3 may be only street-legal 911 (918 revs to 9,200 I think) to ever rev to 9k, which is pretty cool Smiley
