Re: Foldable bucket seats vs. LWB seats

I tried the HANS in Mugello this week . Absolutely no problem when driving .

When you are sitting at stand still you can easily hit the back head rest and '' think'' it will be annoying . But once you are driving the car, you do not touch the headrest ...or at least you do not feel any inconvenience .

Again, there were at least 30 cars which had the LWB seats ( mix of GT3, GT3 RS and GT4 ) . Most people have a HANS . I did not hear anyone complain .   It probably does not fit to everyone , but that percentage is very very low . One must have an extremely straight torso/neck .  Or a very thick thorax which would keep the HANS back when buckled in .

Here is a photos to show you at standstill : ( click to enlarge )

Joël, you were also asking about tire pressure .

The best pressure for me, when tire is hot is to be at this : ( the best grip )

And this is down from standart pressure like this indecision :

Thanks so much, Eric ! Smiley This is very helpful to me.

What you describe about the annoyance at first, is the exact same experience I had when wearing mine for the first time. It never bothered me again.

Ok, that's settled then, no issues with HANS in the LWB! Thanks again, much appreciated, also for the photo, very convincing Smiley

Re the temps, that is a huge difference from standard Smiley what outside temperature did you have in Mugello during that day, 30ish °C ?

Looking forward to your photos/videos from that day. Can't wait to be back on track myself again.

I was at the Ring today and took the opportunity to ask a kind gentleman to let me sit in his GT4 for a test. To my surprise the LWB felt really snug and like a perfect fit. I didn't expect this. Even at the waist (I have waist size 31), where a lot of people have reported that there was too much room? Why is that?

btw I have seen more 991.2 GT3s there...they look awesome in person. Can't wait for mine Smiley

Sorry no. I only had my iphone and it distorts a lot when photographing up close, so I didn't bother.

But you can have a look here :  https://www.ringportal.nl/en/calendar

this is one from that site

it was a rather quiet day (for Sunday standards)

LWB are the best seats I've ever had. Better than the 997 buckets. You will not be disappointed.

If you ordered Clubsport package and you do not need pretty limited space behind(with Clubsport) front seats then LWB do make sense.

Personally I would always order Folding Buckets(had them on 991.1 GT3). But, that's me.

One other myth is solved also. LWBs are not any lighter then Folding Buckets.

Because of the looks or because you need the access to the rear?

Re: Foldable bucket seats vs. LWB seats

Am with Kreso regarding a specification as CS with LWB. Ordered the folding ones I had in my 997 on a non-CS now.

Will be out in the GT4 for a whole day next friday and report back. You guys have me doubting my own judgement... (insert smiley)

Because of the rear access and the fact that Folding Buckets are way better for long driving.

LWBs are excellent for track driving and short drives. This is my very personal opinion.

Re: Foldable bucket seats vs. LWB seats

LWB are currently much more comfortable that I would have imagined.

Driving position is really good, and I have not made long trips (max 70km), but I don't feel them different from previous foldable ones I had on my 991.1 GT3.

btw, I have ordered a set of dunlop sport maxx race 2. Let see how they will behave on the car later on ....once the mchelin will be worn out.

997 Carrera S Triple Black Sold now ... Good car 997 GT3 triple black wow what a car !!!

Re: Foldable bucket seats vs. LWB seats

LWB only makes sense if you ordered Clubsport package. It that case and if someone mainly drives his/hers GT3 on the track(say it 70 % of time track and 30 % road) LWBs are a must.

Otherwise I would recommend Folding Buckets(even with Clubsport).

@Thierry-new Maxx Race 2 should be even better then Cup 2, especially for the road and on the wet pavement.

Re: Foldable bucket seats vs. LWB seats

LWB also makes sense if you need the headroom (they can be lowered, but the folding buckets cannot and are too tall for me).

i did 1000km in a day (twice) in the LWB seats and found them very comfortable. also there were a couple of 500km/day drives and many 50-150km/day drives. no issues in spite of the fact that a had a slipped disk a few years back (after driving 1000km in the ferrari comfort seats). so far so good....

Re: Foldable bucket seats vs. LWB seats

I've tried the LWB's recently, I find relatively 'wide' compared to the "CGT buckets" in my RS. Easier to get in and out of,  but I can imagine on track they're a bit too loose.

And my personal experience is that I can do 680 km  one day  + drive a track the whole of the following day + do again 680 km on the way back and I feel perfectly fine and confortable in the LWB . No back pain . Nothing .

And I have done this quite a few times now .  It really all depends on the person . There is no rule . One needs to try them  and can't relie on internet comments

Re: Foldable bucket seats vs. LWB seats

The LWB seat itself is comfortable, at least at the 911's seat angle. I don't mind doing long distance in the 911R or the GT3RS.

The 918 set the seats a bit more upright and 4.5hr is max I want to be sitting in it a a time.

Re: Foldable bucket seats vs. LWB seats

I am putting my order in for a GT3 Touring, even without the rear seats which I would have loved it if it had and would have placed the order much earlier.

Anyways, it will be my dd and I am thinking of speccing the foldable bucket seats instead of the LWB just for the added convenience of storing things in the rear. What do you guys think?

In the US, I can't find any LWB to test them but I've used the foldable bucket seats before and liked them. Those LWB really look nice!

P.S. my order is not in the US, no foldable buckets here.

Re: Foldable bucket seats vs. LWB seats

They're both great - the foldables are a little narrower around the hips and sit a little high (not height adjustable) and give access to the back of the car.  The LWB's have the height adjustment (can get more helmet room when lowered), a little wider around the hips, and look a little cooler, imo.

I am not planning to track the car. If it helps, I'm 5'11", 185 Pounds. Went to the dealer yesterday but couldn't find a single LWBs to test.

What would be better for longer drives(2-3 hours)?

both will be bucket seats so confort will not be the priority Smiley. I had the 4 way sport seats in my .1 , tracked it a lot and sold it because of the lack of connection with the car. they were extremely confortable though.. Smiley I am getting the LWB for this new one. confortable or not, it will be a semi daily. if you like the purpose of the car, every solution will work.

depends really on your back and how you like to seat in a car. right seat position, you will like buckets, inclined seat...good luck Smiley
