There have been thoughts to develop the Cayman into the endurance series' car for upcoming season - but marketing said no!

After all it becomes visible that the upcoming GT3 RS racecar has taken a step to a more mildly balanced layout, take a look into its classification setup.

    Re: Cayman RS before Boxster?

Buy my RUF 3600S and get 360 HP now. Why wait?

    Re: Cayman RS before Boxster?

Hopefully the existance Boxster RS means the facelifted 997 will get more than a 20-30 HP bump.

Re: Again: Rumor about more powerful Boxster

I like, but I don't really see it an an RS. It's just (barely) keeping up with the Joneses. Not to start a different debate, but I doubt I will ever own a rear-engined car, so then what does Porsche have to offer me? Something always 2nd class?

Hmm - right about the time I want to modify mine

By then my 06 S will have 75K miles on it (I drive 15K+ miles/year), and so I was thinking what could I do. Install a 3.8L with supercharger and LSD on the back, like the RUF upgrade. If your engine breaks (RMS or whatever) do you think Porsche would agree to pay to put in a 911 engine, as long as you agree to eat the extra cost and accept warrantee cancellation?

Actually skip the business class and go straight to first with the Carrera GT...

Re: Again: Rumor about more powerful Boxster

That's great news. I hope the rumor is true. A 330hp Boxster would be an awesome car. Drive the current 987S and you get the feeling that it could easily handle that much power.

Re: Again: Rumor about more powerful Boxster

30hp doesnt sound so much to me... Obviously I'd like even more, a 350hp boxster sounds perfect to me but obviously wont happen!!!

Anyway back to my original question, what kind of performance gains would you see with an extra 35hp???

Current 911 Carrera has 325hp and weighs in at 1470kg and cracks 0-62 in 5... New Boxster to have 330hp and weigh in at 1430kg... Possibly a sub 5 second sprint???? Surely they would push it to get under the 5 as it looks great on the spec sheet!!!

Would love to see that kind of performance... Combined with a DSG would be one fast motor!

just read this post back to myself.... Start with a statement on lack of power, then a question on what the effect would be and then I go on to answer my own question and follow that up by being impressed with the performance gains!!!!!! HA HA HA AH I should go back to bed

Re: Again: Rumor about more powerful Boxster

How can Porsche market an RS ( Renn Sport = Race Sport ) based on the wet sump 987/base 997 block ? Better to call it CS ( club sport ) as previously posted . Keep the RS moniker for the low production true dry sump- motored cars . Hope they don't let marketing department debase the RS badging the way MBZ has with " AMG " , like the AMG R63 minivan.

    GT3 engine in Cayman?

Would a GT1 derived GT3 engine fit in a Cayman? Would solve the oil supply issues and would be one hell of a car.... Or would it rip the drive train and chassis apart!

That's the car Porsche marketing will will never allow to be built , as it must protect it's iconic cash-cow 911 series now and seemingly forever.
But what a fun car it would be , huh ! Sure , someone like RUF can build it but OEM factory is what counts for me . Otherwise it's like all these like 700-1000 hp aftermarket tuner German sedans and sports cars, ,Vipers , Vettes etc. which are everywhere and forgettable after the one-time press release and buff car magazine article and whose typical buyer owns for at most 6 months before discarding for something else in a similar vein.
