    Cautionary tale on options

    During the time I was deliberating over various options for my TT, I decided to shoot off an email to Porsche Exclusive for advice on color combinations. The people there were very helpful, offering sound ideas and useful feedback. In addition to the advice, they also suggested that I send my Komm number to them once my order went into the system so that they could just give it a final once over prior to production.

    Among my options is covering the PCM face in leather: CUR. Although CUR is shown on my copy of the order, it somehow got changed to CMF, which is PCM painted piano black. While this wouldn't have been total disaster, it certainly would have been disappointing to find such a prominent item in the car was wrong on the day I will pick it up.

    Perhaps other folk who have a significant number of options in their orders might like to consider this as a double check against a simple error bringing tears on delivery day!

    Good tip Nick.
    You can also phone them, they are very helpful.
    But watch the time difference!

    Wow. Personal contact with Porsche!

    Standard Procedure of PNA is to refer all our questions to the sometimes inept and often disinterested dealers.

    Next time I have a question or problem with the car I'm gonna call Porsche Exclusive.

    Thanks for the suggestion. Can you provide any contact information for the Exclusive Department? I looked at the Porsche website but did not find any contact info.

    Definitely one of the great mysteries of the universe... but what is even more amazing is that there are suckers like me who are cheerfully prepared to pay for it!

    Thats funny as hell! LOL! I left that option out on my black almost fully leathered car for that very reason. Even if I had to do it over I would not pay that ridiculous amunt for that option. I mean at least the leather covered plastic involves a little glue and a pair of scissors or sharp knifework but a painted plastic part (s) for that $$ is downright mind boggling? Puts a new meaning to exclusive. To each his own. I paid $1100.00 to have the headliner + A/B pilliars all in leather but to cover a plastic part with a few holes is $2K? Explain that one to me please? Maybe Eric can chime in cause he'll do it for far less.

    I've owned Porsches since 1978 and I finally figured out why they charge what they do. It's for the same reason a dog licks its b*lls. THEY CAN.

    How about the $8K they charged a Rennteamer to paint his Carrera GT's brake calipers RED instead of std yellow .

    Actually, we are painting the PCM's now for quite a few 997's. Most are going painted body color, but some are choosing flat black to blend the busy button scheme out.

    They dismantle and send to us, back in a week or so. Stunning on a few GT3s recently.

    So yes, it can be done, and for far less than the factory option.
