    fault message pasm

today i got a fault msg on my 987 msg is pasm faulty indicator and when pressing sport button failure sport mode it feels like the pasm system is in sportmode suspention hard and on lefthand wheel area i can hear a humming sound any thoughts ?? thanks

    Re: fault message pasm

If you've got a fault code, the dealer should be able to sort it. Let us know what happens.

    Re: fault message pasm

correction sound is on all 4 wheels suspect the pasm solenoid valves on the schockstruts are powered hope it will not drain the batterie too quick i guess i better install the charger untill i can have the dealer look at it on monday tried pulling the fuse of the pasm control unit but no cure

    Re: fault message pasm

disconnecting the battery for 20 minutes might reset the fault temporarily if you ned to drive the car and can't stomach the hard ride. This might also clear any fault codes the dealer needs though

    Re: fault message pasm

I believe the valves on the PASM dampers are in sport mode when not powered, so if your car is permanently in sport mode it would not mean that your battery is being drained. Might help you sleep more lightly tonight to know that.

Interesting. I wonder if that has any bearing on my PASM 'problems'...

Hasn't your problem been fixed yet? If I remember correctly, you suffered from the PASM intermittently going into "hard" mode without any driver input. This could be explained by a bad electrical connection causing an intermittent open circuit. (Just speculation on my part).

I would have thought your dealer would have been able find a poor connection by now though?

    Re: fault message pasm

No, I don't believe it is entirely fixed, though OPC did replace the PASM control unit. It is one of those vague problems that dealer seems to have difficulty diagnosing. Last time I left the car with them for a week, and at the end they declared that the fault hadn't arisen in that time.
A couple of times I've taken it over on a Saturday morning, and the car has been good as gold. It must sense that it has been bad! Sometimes it gets quite bad, and very bouncy, but most of the time it's sort of 'in between' - not bad enough to take to dealer, but not as good as I know it can be.

Electrical connection seems like something to persue though. Trouble is, I never get a fault message. I guess it may be one of those things that I'll have to live with until I change cars.

I haven't done a search to check what you have written in earlier posts, but I'm guessing that you are fully aware that the stiffness of the PASM is meant to adapt to driving conditions. On bumpy roads driven in a spirited manner the dampers will "automatically" stiffen up in Normal mode to an extent that their damping will be stiffer than it would be if the car were driven gently on smoothe roads in Sport mode. In other words, the control characteristic "maps" (graphs showing damping force against damper piston speed) for the Sport and Normal modes can overlap, depending on driving conditions.

But I think you have written in the past that you compared your car with another PASM car on same roads and, presumeably, same driving conditions, so you could rule out the possibility of the "active" damping characteristics deceiving you.

    Re: fault message pasm

Yeah, it's often hard when cruising at low speed in high gear, or pootling around town. You can feel the shock from road repairs much more than on the same road when the suspension is compliant. Oh well!

    Re: fault message pasm update

car went to dealer today they were unable to reset fault or load new software in pasm control unit. pasm.controlunit has died needs to be replaced no stock new one has to be ordered from germany appar.syst locks itself in sportmode as a failsafe mode hence the humming sound from the solenoids at the shockstruts and keep it on a batterie loader at night to keep it from unloading syst is energized even with car locked

Do you hear the humming sound permanently or only when you press the PASM button?

    Re: fault message pasm update

power to shockstrut solenoids is on all the time (humming sound at struts) does not matter if engine is on or off or car locked or not. you can only shut it down by removing batterie cables syst does not react on pressing either sport or pasm button no orange on lights if sport button is pressed only message you get is <failure sport mode>this is a failsafe mode if pasm control unit is not responding or controlling

    Re: fault message pasm update

the new pasm control unit came in today and was replaced car is fine again after riding for a week in city traffic with the shock struts in hard sport setting its a lot more comfy now
