    Tobias Moers to Aston Martin

Looks like AMG will be looking for a new CEO.  Do wonder if this makes an AMG takeover of Aston more likely.  Palmer has been dead man walking ever since Stroll came on board so not a surprise he is finally gone.

Re: Tobias Moers to Aston Martin

Wonder if Mercedes takes them over....

Re: Tobias Moers to Aston Martin

I would think that's at least a few years off.  Why would they want/need Aston Martin right now?  Is a right size mess.

Re: Tobias Moers to Aston Martin

Can someone explain to me the Toto Wolff connection at Aston Martin? Somehow he has turned being a principal into becoming a team owner which is quite impressive, i just don't know where he got the capital from.

No idea where Toto's considerable wealth comes from, but he personally recently invested a significant amount in Aston Martin.

    He is the next Bernie.

    Google is your friend:

After retirement, Wolff focused heavily on investment, even founding two companies. Both companies primarily focused on investments on internet and technology.

However, from 2003 onwards Wolff concentrated on strategic investments in medium-sized industrial and listed companies. Some Investments include the German HWA AG, who runs the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters race program for Mercedes-Benz.

Other investments include BRR Rallye Racing, one of the largest rally parts dealers in Europe. Wolff is also co-owner of a sports management company with former F1 champion Mika Häkkinen.

So, you put your money into Rally Racing and you become a billionaire Smiley

Cause right now Aston is worth less than 1/10th of what it was not 2 years ago. You are paying pennies on the dollar.

It's already using AMG engines and Mercedes parts inside, and Mercedes don't really have a prestige brand in it's portfolio.

The only other choice would be McLaren but they already invested in Aston first.

The game of music chair has started, and McLaren really needs to find a chair soon.

That man really is a force to be reckoned with in my opinion. From racing (at some point holding Nordschleife record) to investment banking, to HWA to running Merc F1, ... And he's 'only' 48...

If you take full ownership control then you assume all the debt & obligations so Aston is still far from cheap.

I would not be surprised is McLaren and BMW start eyeing each other if the situation at McLaren deteriorates further.  If not the plan is to wait it out and do an IPO in 3 years.

BMW was always my bet too,but they have their own issues.

Mercedes doesn't have to do an outright buyout, no need yet. Stroll actually did the hardwork already injecting cash into the company and 're-organizing'. Mercedes could just as well stand behind Stroll in the shadow.

BMW already have Rolls Royce, they don't need another halo brand, McLaren do not fit in at all, nothing on a BMW corporate product can be integrated into any McLaren, and nothing McLaren provide will fit BMW either.

Japanese won't buy them, they never buy stuff anyways. The French are broke. That leaves the Chinese as the only logical destination. They have the money, and Indians already owned JLR. But whether the Chinese actually want McLaren is another story.

There eis a bit of history with BMW though.  It is a BMW V12 in the back of the McLaren F1.  It would make some since to share next generation engine tech across both brands.

Re: Tobias Moers to Aston Martin

I doubt if McLaren is a good fit to Mercedes or BMW. JLR would be the logical option if they can afford it but that's about it.
