AMV8 EVO Magazine Scans [56k warning!]

    As promised. Looks awesome!

Re: AMV8 EVO Magazine Scans [56k warning!]

    Thank you Atlantis .

Re: AMV8 EVO Magazine Scans [56k warning!]

    Thanks Atlantis

Again, its condemed to be in the shadow of the 911 as Aston's 911 attempt if they keep reffering to it so much. And they are setting the public for a dissapointment when the hard data about track times and such comes out comparing the two since they are comparing it too much to the dinamics of a 911. If its promised to rival the 911 in that particular aspect it will look like it has failed, and wouldn't, I bet its "close enough" to the 911 dinamically for most people while offerring other attributes. They should stand more out its other merits over the 911.

We will have to wait to Geneva it seems to know more details as they say, specially its weight. And if its supercharged or not.

Its main catch is the exclusivety (though 3000 per year is not all that exclusive) but it better be reliable and I personally think it very well may be, though we still have to wait and see, but they know thats very important here. I think Porsche needs this competetition since its virtually unchallenged in this category, but its mainly in terms of public image because it won't menace much in terms of sales though since the 997 sales are huge compared to what the Aston will manage to sell. The next four seater M3 will affect sales much more than the Aston.

If I were 20 years older, and had a dealership closer than 500km away, I could see myself in this car.

Great write up from EVO as usual by the way

Re: AMV8 EVO Magazine Scans [56k warning!]

Another thing for the 997S to eat

Re: AMV8 EVO Magazine Scans [56k warning!]

With all due respect to everyone on this board,

I really don't understand why everytime there's a new thread about the AMV8, the Porsche purists just have to bash it. Last time I checked, this is the sports cars thread and not the Porsche's. Here we have Atlantis, which is an addict like myself, went the trouble scanning all the 14 pages for fellow AMV8 fans (THANK YOU, Atlantis!!). If we want to hear about how dynamically inferior the AMV8 is to the 911, we would make an AMV8 thread on the Porsche board.

Please don't get emotional reading this. I have no doubt that the AMV8 won't match the 911 for dynamics or Nurburgring lap times (911 is the best-handling car in the world, that I reckon). But I have no passion for the 911 (everyone has one) like I have for the Aston Martin. And the fact that Aston Martin benchmark it to the 911 is a proof that they also see 911 as the best, and it is good enough for the rest of us.

I mean, just look at it. Never have I seen in my life a car so gorgeous inside and out. I don't care if it's 5 or 10 seconds slower than the 997 in Nurburgring. Even if it has only 90% the performance of a 997, it has design beyond any Porsche I know. And you can't measure it with numbers.

Forget the numbers. It's fast enough for most people, and I believe the AMV8 will go down in history as one of the best-looking car ever.

    Peace.

Re: AMV8 EVO Magazine Scans [56k warning!]

    Thanx for making the effort

Re: AMV8 EVO Magazine Scans [56k warning!]

Thanks a lot for the scan. Great article. No doubt anymore, it is NA 380hp. From the wriiten description of the engine and handling along with the side by side pic, it makes me think of my 928, just updated.

    Very nice!

    Tom

I agree, Shin! Modern 911's aren't purist cars anyways (at well over 3,000 lbs even for the "lightweight" GT3). So, I think the AMV8 is a wonderful addition to the marketplace. It may offer slightly less performance than a 911, but it surely is prettier (especially inside) and more luxurious.

I think the problem, as noted by Carlos, is that they are bringing so much attention to the fact that the car was designed to dethrone the 911, that it will have negative impact to the perception of that goal if it doesn't deliver as advertised on every performance parameter....

Re: AMV8 EVO Magazine Scans [56k warning!]

From what I read and undestood from the article Dr. Bez and the chief Engineer Mr. Porrit were actually giving high marks and regards to 911 they never put it down. As a 911 owner it made me feel good that they were comparing their master piece to 911 .

Re: AMV8 EVO Magazine Scans [56k warning!]

    masterpiece that's all, thx Atlantis

    Aaaaaaamen to that, brother.
This car is so beautiful it almost makes me pee myself.
Photographing it next to the 911 is not to the 911's advantage IMO.

Looking at the 911 is like looking at Lesley Stahl (of CBS 60 minutes):
Beautiful, classy, stylish and still quick enough to beat most others...but she's not young anymore.

Looking at the Aston is like watching Veronica Zemanova, Natalie Portman and Kate Beckinsale making out (...I think..hehe)

Question is if the three girlies will still look as good as Lesley Stahl when they turn 60.
And I believe that is the secret behind the Porsche success. Saty true to the concept and ignore the varying trends as much as possible.
Having said that, I really do hope that the Aston design is more than just a trend...especially because the design is danish.
    Howdya like-a-that!

Re: AMV8 EVO Magazine Scans [56k warning!]

Dr. Phil, I share your enthusiasm, every word!

Re: AMV8 EVO Magazine Scans [56k warning!]

gorgeous car--i can't wait to test this myself!!

Re: AMV8 EVO Magazine Scans [56k warning!]

I had posted today in the 997 board on this same article. I read it yesterday and as all of you I have to say that this AM AV8 looks gorgeous. Could not describe it better than Dr. Phil.
