does your 997 tt skid out on sharp corners if you

    lift off the throttle?

several auto magazines have reported this tendency is back in the 997 tt after being tamed in the 996 tt. this seems like a giant step backwards to me.

    what gives?

Re: does your 997 tt skid out on sharp corners if

    Poor drivers is my guess.

Re: does your 997 tt skid out on sharp corners if you

My Turbo is very controllable off-throttle in a turn. I have the X73 suspension.

Re: does your 997 tt skid out on sharp corners if you

Read the 997TT board. Porsche screwed up with the PTM setup, trying to make the car more "raw". Incidentally, many serious Turbo drivers in Europe are throwing out their 997TT AWD systems and replacing them with 996TT AWD systems .

Re: does your 997 tt skid out on sharp corners if you

Who do you know that has done this?

Ask Gnil, several guys he knows have done this at Manthey, along with installing more aggressive LSDs. The old, 996 system works much better.

Re: does your 997 tt skid out on sharp corners if you

Porsche suspension engineers screwed up. They tried to soften the 997TT's ride based on complaints that the old 996 was overly harsh for everyday use(it was!)

This change in combination with their desire to make the 997 feel more edgy and communicative was a BAD move. andling people said felt too "sedate" -

this appears to be the consensus--except on the 997tt board--so many defensive responses there!

i don't consider the 996tt to be too stiff for a daily driver. it's not a mercedes but that's ok.

I'm only 31 and I sure as hell did when I borrow my friends while he was out of the country for a week last year.

It was a pancreas rattler on anything but the smoothest of roads. Back country VA or MD, no problem, but highway or WORSE city driving - I needed to lay down for 10 minutes after parking.

Even with PASM in Normal setting?

Maybe your friend needs to take his car to the shop.

I agree, it is a step backwards and it is true.
I really don't know the reason for that, maybe they screwed up, maybe they didn't understand what customers actually asked for or maybe they actually wanted to slow people down (as ridiculous this may sound).
Also don't forget that there is also the 997 GT3, GT3RS and now the GT2. Judging by the test numbers from various reviews, especially when the 997 Turbo uses semi-slicks, another reason for this "bad" setup may be the fact that Porsche didn't want the 997 Turbo to "destroy" the inner house competition and make them look bad. Who would buy a GT3, a "racecar for the street", anymore if the 997 Turbo would be faster on the track?

I know, I know...lots of speculations but the truth is: the current PTM setup of the 997 Turbo isn't satisfactory at all. I also doubt that Porsche is going to do something about it.

    I agree with your speculation.

How come you feel this way RC? When you first got the Turbo you raved about it and considered it perfect.

Re: does your 997 tt skid out on sharp corners if

And if this is true, how long can they keep doing this, this taming of models to not upset their high-end brethren? I mean,
    1. the boxster and the cayman are kept "small" artificially.
    2. The C4 and C4S receive the widebody, but it would make much more sense to give the C2S and the C4S widebodies, but then nobody would buy the non-S models anymore.
    3. The turbo got <500hp to leave room for further development.
    4. now, the turbo is kept "slow" on the track to not upset the GT2 and GT3...
Sometimes I would like to shoot all the marketeers and let the porsche engineers just build a dream machine again.

    Good points.

Re: does your 997 tt skid out on sharp corners if

It is all about the dream. They have lost it for now...
