    I totally agree.

Things look a little bit different in various European countries.

For example: A german Porsche dealer is not allowed to sell a different brand other than Porsche in the same building or sales room. Even the direct vicinity is a problem. Not really an issue in the US.

Buy a Porsche certified car from a reputable dealer that you want to establish a relationship with.  And get on with it--you can drive yourself nuts with all of this back and forth.  To paraphrase the bad guy in the western movie "The Magnificent Seven":  "You want it, you take (buy) it."

Seriously? This would be an even more "old man" car. Smiley

I swore to myself that I won't even touch the Mercedes S class before I am 60 years old. Smiley

To be honest, I still think that a 997 Carrera GTS 4/4S or a 991 Carrera 4 would be the right car for him or the Audi RS 5 (it is comfortable, it looks very nice and it has a very nice exhaust sound) but if I would pick a Panamera at his age, it would probably be the GTS. I wouldn't though...get a Panamera at his age. There is time for this sort of cars with kids and/or when you get older. Even now, I would prefer driving a 997 Turbo S anytime over the PTS I have but with the family...this is a no-go.

Re: Panamera 4S or Panamera Turbo ?

Turbo, panamera, cl500 they are all 'old' man cars.. but that doesnt mean they dont make sense for 100 km daily commutes...

    vote comfort than tire roar.

Its all marketing anyway, if u see a few ads with young cool metrotypes in the Cl, suddenly it becomes a hip car to own.

get what you like, and what works for you, is what I would say... F*** the stereotypes Smiley

Re: Panamera 4S or Panamera Turbo ?

Guys, as the GTS rides lower than the 4S, is it also less comfortable ?

Re: Panamera 4S or Panamera Turbo ?

Hi Bango.  I believe you are in a state of "frantic inactivity", stuck unable to make a decision.  All the cars you are considering are terrific--including the wonderful GTS.  You cannot go wrong.

Do yourself a favor and make a decision--no more wondering...

The price of the GTS is starting to drop, and most people told me to get a GTS, hence the question... so is it less comfortable than a 4S or not ? broken heart

PS: I'm still waiting to sell my 997 before being able to buy anything anyway, and it's proving to be a lot harder than I thought...

Unless you '' break the price''  ( that means being lower then ANY 997  car you can see on auto scout ) , you will indeed stay with your current car  for a very long time

Re: Panamera 4S or Panamera Turbo ?

I wouldnt want to put 30k pa on my GTS, and I wouldn't really enjoy such a long commute in it every day.  I also don't understand the concept of changing cars every 3 years.

I'd buy the GTS and use it for weekends and perhaps one trip a week.  I'd then keep the GTS for a decade and love it, and buy something like a BMW 130i or Audi A3 for comfortable daily commuting.  Over 10 years you'd be happier and richer...

Re: Panamera 4S or Panamera Turbo ?

Having reading through the whole thread once more: I don't know about your financial situation, but it does not look like a great deal to me:

    • You will have to give away your 997 for a lower-than market price (in a market which has already tanked).
    • You get a 1 year old Panamera which will depreciate minimum EUR 50-70k in the next 5 years (with the commute you do it will be on the higher side)
    • The fuel cost for driving the Panamera 100 km every day will be very high (relative to a smaller car)

So unless money is no issue, then I would keep the 997 and get a small and comfortable commuter as 2nd car. The Panamera is an awesome car, but if you don't need the space and will commute that much every day... well, it does not seem like the most logical choice. Having said that, buying cars should be emotional, not logical indecision

Even better than my earlier, similar suggestion, Bluelines

buy the commuter, then spend some money getting your 997 detailed, and fall in love with it all over again!

Re: Panamera 4S or Panamera Turbo ?

I would stick with the 997 too but I never asked about comfort, especially not at my age and I am 47. angry

    indecision

The GTS would be the perfect combo of performance, elegance, sportiness and comfort. You can't really go wrong.

Personally, I said this before, I would never ever go for a Panamera at my age or a younger age for that matter without having kids, simply because it really doesn't make sense. I would rather get a nice used 991, prices already dropped below the 100k EUR mark.

There are also some very nice 997 Turbo (facelift) out there for under 110k EUR, amazing performance for (almost) little money. The prices will drop further when the 991 Turbo will be around. You can't go wrong with this car, AWD, amazing power and performance and a very good reliability for such a high performance car. Without kids (and without judging customers), the 911 Turbo would be my daily driver.

Re: Panamera 4S or Panamera Turbo ?

Ok so... went to test drive an A Class A250 Sport, and we're going to order an A45 AMG as soon as it's available as it looks like the perfect compromise for us (4 doors, AWD, nice exhaust note, etc).

Any more news on this car ? All I see is power around 350 HP, cost around 50k€... do you insiders know more about it ? blush

Also on the looks... will it look any different from the A250 Sport ?

    Thx !

How did you like the combination of FWD and the A250 Sport engine? Is there a lot of engine impact on the steering (i.e. the typical FWD problem with more powerful engines...)Smiley

Re: Panamera 4S or Panamera Turbo ?

The pavement was wet and the power would not go down AT ALL... I understand why the A45 AMG will be AWD !

Re: Panamera 4S or Panamera Turbo ?

There might be a change of plan (again, I know...).

As I can't manage to sell my 997 CS at a good price, I had a look at Porsches again... and I've found a very well equiped Carrera 4 GTS with 9.500kms for 100k€, and they would buy my 997 CS for a good price.

So now the question is... how much do you guys think I could sell it in 12 months with 45.000 kms ?

Is the 4 GTS less comfortable than a standard 4S or is it the same ?

Re: Panamera 4S or Panamera Turbo ?

I rather get the feeling you just want something new, rather than something more "usable".

Getting a 4GTS won't make you happier than having the CS, after a couple of months, latest a year or so, your desire for something new will come up again.

Get a 991, there are already slightly used attractive models on the market or just get something completely else. Just be careful, once the Porsche virus got you, you will come back anyway.

Agree with RC - 997 to 997? You'll probably want for 991 sooner rather than later.

Re: Panamera 4S or Panamera Turbo ?

Guys, the 991 4S are far too expensive for me...

The idea would be to keep the 4GTS for a year only, hence the question on the resale value... Any idea ?

And the big change would be the PDK...

Re: Panamera 4S or Panamera Turbo ?

Why not drive your 997 CS one year longer? Buying a 4GTS and selling it after one year is always going to be expensive. yes

Smiley Also, the AWD isn't that much of an advantage on the 997/991 since the weight distribution is different than on other cars and traction is seldom an issue. The turbo charged models are a different story because of the excessive torque they produce at low rpm.

The only AWD 997 I would buy right now is a slightly used Turbo or better, Turbo S. End of 2012 I got offered an excellent factory car at a very attractive price with low mileage but when I passed the offer on to a business friend, the car was already gone.

Re: Panamera 4S or Panamera Turbo ?

BangoO, believe me I understand being confused about which model to buy. There are so many choices, all enticing.

But iMHO, the Carrera 4 GTS is the wrong choice, period.  Settle down, take your time, don't rush and a better option will come along...

Re: Panamera 4S or Panamera Turbo ?

Why is it a wrong choice wonderbar ?

I'm not rushing, I've been looking for a new car since a year...
