That's part of my point...I find it strange that they would have made the redesign for the normal 996 from the 993, and then, when producing the C4S, they toss-in a "throw-back" design element.
All the answers I've received here and elsewhere have come down to: differentiate the C4S from other models; visually creates a "wider" rear-end (the antithesis of your girlfriend's/wife's black pants); and the "retro" design element.
I guess my question now is: Does anyone know what the official Porsche reasoning was? Maybe someone has the marketing material from the introduction?
I like the look, but would have rather used sheet metal than plastic at that point of the evolution of the 911.
