    C4S rear reflector...Why?

    I was trying to find out why the C4S (996) was designed with the reflector strip on the rear... Increased visibilty in bad weather conditions? Or did they run out of sheet metal and all they could find were leftovers from a 993 rear-end in the parts bin..?

    Because it makes the rear look wider(ala-993)....

    Ya I think they were trying to reach back to the 964/993 generations. I always liked the reflector strip.

    Actually the rear reflector goes back to 1973 (MY 74) 911s

    That's part of my point...I find it strange that they would have made the redesign for the normal 996 from the 993, and then, when producing the C4S, they toss-in a "throw-back" design element.

    All the answers I've received here and elsewhere have come down to: differentiate the C4S from other models; visually creates a "wider" rear-end (the antithesis of your girlfriend's/wife's black pants); and the "retro" design element.

    I guess my question now is: Does anyone know what the official Porsche reasoning was? Maybe someone has the marketing material from the introduction?

    I like the look, but would have rather used sheet metal than plastic at that point of the evolution of the 911.

    I really like the look of the reflector on the 996 4S. Although I feel the 997 is a sharper looking car then the 2wd 996, I'm still partial to the 996 4S compared to the new 997 4S in regards to exterior styling.

    cargraphics did sell the reflector strip for the narrowbody. The quality was excellent and the fit was pretty good. (it doesn't look good because I just taped it on before using the adhesive backing..., but I didn't like it so I returned it.

    I'm not a fan of the wide reflector on the 996 4S. To me it looks dated. However, I completely respect the fact that other people do like it.

    This reflector is really missing on the 997! I agree!
    I had a 996 C4S Cab, and it was a great pleasure, even on track, if you accept to burn a lot of tyres and of brakes (even with turbo-like brakes, we have to pay for the car weight...), it is really efficient. Now I have a GT3RS, great, great great!!!! but I do not forget the 9964S Cab.
