What car are you getting next?

Think of getting a 997C2S in the next few months, but I really like the balance and poise of Cayman compared to 911's light front end and tail heavy feel. Then again I like the 996 a lot, the way you could get the power down out of the corners is great fun

Do most Cayman owners see the Cayman or Boxster as a stepping stone to the 911, I don't, but many see it to be the case. Or do you want your next car to be something totally different?

Once you've had a Porsche it doesn't leave you with many options

    That's indeed a big problem

At this point my emotions go to a 997 C4S with X51.
AWD should give better balance (front light/back heavy) to the 997. Do you agree?

Re: What car are you getting next?

If Porsche gives us a Cayman with 400+ HP that would be my first choice however

    German

Re: What car are you getting next?

I'm down for an M3 next, the new 400hp V8 one... However the badge aint no Porsche badge and it aint no real sports car... I may be forced to get a more normal car though! Currently have 2 cars and its a bit of a waste, so one super car might be the answer..

I would like a 997s with -20mm and PCCB but that would have to be 2nd hand

Re: What car are you getting next?

Tough call. The Cayman has the sweeter handling in my book for everday use but the extra power of the C2S is welcome. PSE is a must on a C2S as it really makes the car

Like Rich I've got a new model M3 on order and that car should be huge fun if the M5 is anything to go by. The new 335i coupe is a really good drive so the M3 with 400bhp should be entertaining. I've also got a deposit down on a new facelift Cayenne S but my friend at the BMW dealership has managed to get me a June build new model X5 diesel so I may go for that instead, hopefully enjoy minimal depreciation for 5 or 6 months then chop it in for the M3 I suspect that the M3 will allow 6 months depreciation free motoring as well

    IMO spot on.

People with a Cayman/Cayman S obviously didn't need rear seats so why go for a 911 Carrera, Targa or Turbo. Why not go for a GT3 next? That would be a really good next step up.

Is the GT3 an every day drive ? Not sure here in rainy middle europe. Maybe in the southern parts but not here for sure !!

Re: What car are you getting next?

    Hi,

had a 996GT3RS but now driving a Cayman S. As daily driver the Cayman makes a lot more sense.

    Cheers
    Thomas

Re: What car are you getting next?

I've had two Boxsters now, so I'd probably have a change next time round. Maybe a Cayman S with less options than I've got now to keep within budget. Or maybe a nice used 997S if I could find the right one. As toplad says, once you've had a car as good as a Porsche it would be a difficult choice to go for anything else that is remotely affordable.

Re: What car are you getting next?

    A Ferrari 430.

    That's what I want next.

If money was no object then that would definitely be my next car. In the meantime I'll keep checking my lottery tickets....

Re: What car are you getting next?

Money no object (i.e. lottery win), it would have to be a GT3 and Audi RS4 Estate. But back in the real world, I am probably going to wait a couple of years to see if a Cayman CS/RS is on the way.

Re: What car are you getting next?

Audi is coming out with a midengine 350HP 2500lbs AWD DSG R4. This is lighter and more powerful than the Cayman S, and, has the famous Audi interior, with leather. It will be priced below the Porsche Cayman.

This is assuming Porsche AG doesn't buy VW and kill off the Audi line to avoid competition, keep prices high and horsepower down on Porsche cars. Porsche AG has already killed off the Audi R6, which would have been priced below the Cayman S, with more horsepower.

The 997C4S is a nice looking car and while I like the idea of the power kit, I'd have it on the C2S; I'm a RWD sort of guy. The C4s under steers more than the C2. The 4WD drive bits and bobs adding weight to the front and making the front push wide. Due to the weight distribution of the 911 I don't think they require 4WD on the non turbo models, but I'm sure if one was sat on my drive I'd be very happy bunny.

The R4 sounds interesting, but I suspect when it comes out the weight and price will have gone up, plus the helm of the RS4 is still numb compared to the Cayman and I'm guessing the new R4 would be also.

Porsches offer more than the on paper specs suggest, sometimes I think I'd like more performance, then I drive my Cayman like I've stole it and realise that I'm just spoilt.

My "free"choice would be the 997 GT3, I've looked at the 996 GT3 MkII before, but it's setup to hard for everyday use. This problem seems to be cured on the new 997GT3 with PASM, now the only problem is the price

Re: What car are you getting next?

Well, if price is no objective and you were thinking of springing for GT3 or 911 Turbo money, you might consider the Audi R8. It's a mid-engined, dry sump, race-proven car that's also more exclusive than Porsche. I read they were only going to make 15 a day.

I just hope Porsche AG doesn't kill the R8 by forcing Audi to overprice it and cut back its horsepower, like Porsche did to its own mid-engined car, the Cayman, so it wouldn't compete with the ass heavy 911.

Re: What car are you getting next?

Well one things for sure, if Porsche took the shackles off the Boxster / Cayman the future for the rear engined Porsche would look distinctly shakey - and they know it!

Re: What car are you getting next?

If I had to get a car now. I'd wait the 997 C2S MKII.
    Or a GT3...but then I'd loose 2 seats...
And if I had to have one car only, the upcoming M3..

Re: What car are you getting next?

Money no object, I'd get something in addition to complement the 2-seater - probably something like a BMW 535d Touring. I think something like an M5 is a little overkill. Then a beaten up Landie for the rough chores and heading out to the moors, and maybe a Mini Cooper S for popping in to town with.

Nope - you need the beaten up landie for popping into town with - instant right of way..

    What he said, +1.

Re: What car are you getting next?

I just picked up the F430 Spyder's catalog and it costs USD385k over here with no options!!!!! Plus a 2 year wait.

Well if they really make a Cayman RS with LSD, a little more power and a more focused look then I am all for it!

Re: What car are you getting next?

With any luck (so in reality unlikely to happen) a Polar silver 997 C2S in a few years to be followed about 4-5 years from now with a white 997 turbo S.

In reality probably just stick with my cayman S and maybe consider replacing with another cayman S if they do a power upgrade / facelift in 2 years time (assuming it's not gonna cost too much more).....

Re: What car are you getting next?

I've never considered a Boxster/Cayman as a stepping stone to the 911 which does offend some. For me, there's a handful of new cars coming on the market which may prove interesting. If not, then maybe a 2nd hand F-car. What I really want, though, is a GT3-motored Cayman. I may consider a 911 GT3, but I think I'd rather not have a rear-engine layout. Sticking with my Boxster for now...

Re: What car are you getting next?

Im planning on getting the new 2009 Camaro. Im a muscle car guy at heart, and miss the Americana of these cars. Funny I have an E46 M3 and love it greatly and am on the fence with this current car. Itll be kept for the years to come or traded in for a New E92 M3, or Possible used C4S. Time will tell. Yeah, if money was no option Id have me a 599 GTB or possibly a Paganni Zonda.

    GTMF3 !! Bright orange/black

I'll leave you guys to figure out what the MF stands for. When my Boxster dies, many years from now, I think I will take it to Ruf for a little special upgrade to a 3.8 turbo action.

    Re: GTMF3 !! Bright orange/black

If money was not a problem i think a Vayron might b quite nice !!

My local Ferrari dealer has just had a low mileage F430 F1 spyder in ice blue metallic with blue leather. Don't think I've ever seen a more magnificent car. Only one problem, he wanted Pounds132k for it.... And it's just sold http://www.meridien.co.uk/car_details.asp?ID=4847

Re: What car are you getting next?

    And its in your colour...

Re: What car are you getting next?

Started with Boxster, then C4, then C4S, now Cayman S + waiting for 998 GT3 RS with PDK.

Cayman S is not a stepping stone the way the old Boxsters were. Now these cars (inc Boxsters) are so good in their own right, that they are qulaified alternatives!
