ARMD009:
RC,
do you think the X5 facelift will be on display at Geneva ?
I don't have a clue but I suppose so. BMW wouldn't miss such an opportunity to advertise their "new" X5, especially since one competitor, Porsche, will present a completely new Cayenne in Geneva.
It may also be the place where BMW announces the 600 HP performance kit for the X5/X6M but surprisingly, my BMW source can't confirm that such a performance kit will be offered, just the already known 50i performance kit, now for the X5 50i (new) too.
Another update on the 8-speed automatic transmission used for the X6/X5: apparently there will be only two advantages over the current 6-speed automatic transmission. One is a lower fuel consumption (up to 11% lower) and the other one is lower noise at the same speeds (due to the additional 2 gears and lower rpm at same speeds). The shifting speed of the 8-speed and 6-speed auto tranny are the same, there is no improvement.
Reminder: even the 6-speed auto tranny from BMW is one of the fastest on the market, the improved version for the X5/X6M has the same shifting speed as BMW's own DCT. It is built by german manufacturer ZF.
The new Cayenne is using a new Aisin 8-speed transmission, I just hope that Porsche and the Japanese improved this baby because the 6-speed Tiptronic was a pain in the a.. regarding shifting speed and reaction.
