Look, I don't want to get into an argument. I live with a Historian! The Russians were allies in the war pretty much for the same time as the Americans - from 1941. Depends if by 'true' you imply that America was better buddies with us than Russia, which is probably true, but all three were basically on the same side from 1941. Infact the US gave Russia cash and kit to help fight back against Hitler. Incidentally, loss of life during the war was about 25 million Russians (military and civilians) compared with approx 400 thousand American. America didn't get directly involved in the war until Pearl Harbor. Until then, support was by loans and kit, for which we had to open up and allow free trade to our Colonies. Hence the 'made a lot of money' comment. As far as I understand it, American saved our bacon more by the supply of goods and equipment than by direct action, by which I mean that it was the most bacon-saving factor!

Popularly held belief, word of mouth, assumptions - these are not fact. People should not argue loudly and viciously if they are not absolutely certain of fact.

War and politics are ugly things, perhaps not suited to these boards. History is in the past, but should be kept in mind as we look to the future.

Anyway, lets get back to Porsche, and stop going OT.

I was joking around and you went into this? You say some argue, but don't speak on fact? lol. Do you know my background? If you think the Russians at that time were really on the Brits side;I have a bridge over here in brooklyn I can sell ya...lol. Two words: Cold War. Russia were allies of convience at the time (To get rid of the GREATER evil). That's it for me folks...

    No. Please enlighten me.

An ally is an ally. I think the Russians became allies when Hitler started invading them. Hardly convenient. They had had a non-aggression pact before that (more convenient), but Hitler broke it.

My original post was in defence of a comment made by another poster, which he probably didn't mean, along the lines of 'The USA were solely responsible for winning WW2 in Europe'. They weren't. This attitude largely ticks us off.

I don't feel your Cold War comment has any bearing, as it largely revolves around nuclear posturing, but lets not get into a historical debate.

That's not only not what I meant, it's not even what I said. I apologize if you interpreted it that way.

Lets just say I have a political science background. What I'm saying is the US and Britain were always leery of Russia and never trusted Stalin (and he never trusted the West either). When I mean ally of convince; I mean the US/Britian needed Russia to defeat the awesome military machine of Hitler. It was the sheer numbers of men (all nations) and the industrial machine of the US that defeated Hitler. As you see, as soon as the greater evil was defeated..what happen? Suspicious allies (US/Britian vs. Russia) return to enemies. The Cold War doesn't only involve nuclear standoff, but the entire West vs. USSR, whether its quietly facing off or many conflicts throughout the world for many years; beginning with the split of Berlin after WW2. Which brings me to MY main point...At the time, Russia was never a true ally of the US and Britain. And like I said in my previous post; I just threw in the "Russia wasn't a true ally" as a joke. Even though its true. I think the other poster was saying the US helped Britain big time. Whether it was supplies or men. In fact supplies is just important. OK, I'm really done now. Back to Porsche stuff.

I decided to jump from page 1 to 10 and all of a sudden, there's no Boxster talk -- just some stuff about Russia and Hitler. I guess there is a connection. Hitler backed Ferry Porsche's VW design and those genes later found their way into Porsche and the Boxster. How's that for making a connection?
