Re: Finally, I finished the new video!

It's not really my business since i'm no surfer , but in Portugal i think one of the best places to surf is Ericeira. For some reason the world championship is held there.
www.ericeira.net if you're interested.

Paulorangelmelo

Just one slight correction, the major accident with Joaquim Santos was in the 86 edition. Later in that year Toivonen died in the Corsica which "killed" the gruppe B era.

Cheers

When it comes to surfing and alike, I'm like a fish out of water so I'm clueless about good spots but within Spain, Tarifa is very famous.

Hey Fanch,

are you planning on windwufing or waveriding?

I have done the later only in Teneriffe, so I can't give you first hand experiences on Portugal or Spain. I know that a lot of windsurfers go to the border area between Spain and Portugal in the south - or to the Atlantic coast of France of course - and waveriders tend to go to the above mentioned places.

I can recommend the area between Lisbon and Sagres. It is a less touristic region where camping right on the beach is allowed (or at least accepted), almost like it must have been in the 70ies...
Fanch, please PM me if you need detailed info! How do you plan to go there - with a camper or with the Porsche?

Greetings from Germany!

Re: Finally, I finished the new video!

Great job, Carlos!

Re: Finally, I finished the new video!

Carlito, Caracho!
I just watched the video! AWESOME!
Congrats man!
You drive well! Very smooth, that's the way to go!
One driving technique question, I love heel and toe and I've noticed you even do it from 2nd to 1st on montain roads, I've been told it's quite tough on the gearbox, and hence, not recommandable, what do you think.
It is actually harder to engage 1st witht the right amount of throttle to match the revs, don't you think?
Secondly, I will be popping by Spain this summer but very briefly, around the frontier, San Sebastian? are you near?
Hasta luego!

Re: Finally, I finished the new video!

Thanks Grant
What I would love one day is to see a video of that track beauty of yours at the track or up a Colorado mountain

Fanch,

I would think it would be harder on the gear box no to heel toe rev there, those hairpins are very very tight and dropring from 2nd to 1st without rev matching would not only give you severy cervical wiplash but it would be much more violent on the transmission, but if you rev match its smooth with no jerkiness and no loss of grip or unsetteling the car at the entry. I guess the easiest way on the car would be not to drop to 1st and take them on 2nd gear but then you'd be really on the low end of the rev range and have no power comming out at all, and you'd just be cruising.

And like you say, heel toeing to 1st is the hardest to match rev, its much harder for it to make it smooth but that is a very fun mountain road. The only problem are the tourist buses that frequent it, they take up the whole two lanes in the hairpins so you have to watch for those so you don't catch them at mid corner as you can see in the video, and the other is the roman type stone pavement pedestrian crossings that cross the road that make you loose grip, if you look at the very last curve of the 996 mountain segment, the front tires loose grip on one of those and car understeers a bit so I had to open the steering and delay the throttle opening and just went a bit onto the opposite lane.

San Sebastian? unfortunately I'm even closer to Madrid in the center of Spain or Lisbon than to Sanse thats one of the disadvantages of being in a corner, but if you even go to north Portugal for surfing

Better yet, why don't you come for a ride in person - you're welcome anytime

Re: Finally, I finished the new video!

Beem me up Scotty!... Mr. Sulu! set course to Denver... maximun warp!

Re: Finally, I finished the new video!

Awesome vid mang ..

Re: Finally, I finished the new video!

Carlos,
I didn't mean that I do 2nd to 1st withouth heel and toeing, I always heel and toe, what I meant is that I actually NEVER do 2nd to 1st because I thought it was too brutal on the gearbox, but after reading your post, if you match the revs then it should be fine, much better indeed on hairpin exits!
Thanks for the tip.

Re: Finally, I finished the new video!

Oppps, I see what you meant now. I guess the solution would be to get the Turbo then then you don't need to reach for 1st!

Re: Finally, I finished the new video!

Thanks TopherV, didn't recognise you with the new avatar

Re: Finally, I finished the new video!

Yep;) but then, you wouldn't hear the flat six's cry tear off the maintoun air! It's not a perfect world Next time, I'll try H&T from 2nd to 1st.

Re: Finally, I finished the new video!

I don't know what's ur profession but this video is wow.
keep on man, keep on
btw, ur exhaust on C4 is original or u changed them?

Re: Finally, I finished the new video!

Thanks cumbe the exhaust is the stock one but the sound was taken from the outside of the car so it sounds louder.

Re: Finally, I finished the new video!

hi carlos-- i'm a *little* late to this video party, but i downloaded last nite, and it's great--

i particularly enjoyed the noticeable tension in driving while on rain-slicked road you WARPED past big rigs and then EASED on the throttle and glided a soft right turn at ???kph onto a bridge (?)-- great ride

looking forward to your future video-reports for rennteam!!

Re: Finally, I finished the new video!

Thanks igzaklee!

I won't be making any more videos anytime soon though unless something interesting comes up... wish I could get my hands on a 997S for a ride without the dealer accompanying me, to make a video report/test of it but that won't happen

Re: Finally, I finished the new video!

Thanks Poursha! the bike has an Akrapovich exhaust, and hearing and "feeling" an engine reving at 10k+ is intoxicating

Porsche Maniac,

I decided to use the windshield support piece of a radar detector that has those suction cups. It has a part that can swivel around in order to orientate the radar detector when attached, so I taped the match sized camera to it so I scould stick it to the vehicle with the suction cups and orientate it also to get the angle I wanted

Carlos, great vid Did I mention that Mrs. Akrapovich drives a 996 Turbo?

Re: Finally, I finished the new video!

Thanks J.Seven

Crash, I did not know that! but figures

Re: Finally, I finished the new video!

Today is the first day I've been able to download the video successfully. The wait was worth it.
Senor Carlos, my hat's off to you. Muchas gracias! Loved the video, the soundtrack, and the editing. It tickles me to no end to watch you rev-matching into 1st gear since I too love doing it even on straight roads when approaching a stoplight. Do you rev match using a double clutch or a single clutch or does it vary depending on how you feel? For me, it depends on how lazy I'm feeling that day.

Oh, and you're palm and toe technique on the GSX-1000 looks good to a novice like me. I need to buy a nice 600cc bike sometime in the future. Also, it's good to see you wearing protective clothing on the bike and the quad. Too many people in the U.S. and other countries don't bother and end up severly injured. The law here in Ohio doesn't even require a helmet.

Thanks again for the video.

Re: Finally, I finished the new video!

Thanks MAVERICK!
My hats off to you if you if double-declutch even if its sometimes cause I am of the lazy type all the time, I never double-declutch, I thank who ever invented the sycro's

Rev matching with the right hand on the front brake and throttle is a must on these 1000cc's, they have so much engine brake that its really easy to slide the rear wheel on the entry of the corner when downshifting if you are braking hard. In 600cc's you don't have to as much but you will do it anyway for fun just like in the car The 600cc class bikes are making giant leaps lately in terms of performance, the Kawa ZX-6R and Yamaha R6 lapped faster than the 1000cc V-Twin Ducati 999S and Aprilia RSV 1000R in the fast Montmelo GP track in this years MASTERBIKE test

I agreee with the riding gear, I would feel naked without the leathers and the heltmet on the bike, I have seen accidents and what asfalt does do the skin on one's face, and have lost friends and even family menber to sportbike accidents I used to not use a helmet or ride in beach clothes when I was stupid and a teenager, now I know much more. Not only the helmet is important, the leathers are a must also, it seem paradogical one can't drink a beer until you are 21 years old but you can drive a sportbike without a heltmet there

Re: Finally, I finished the new video!

Wow, what to add Carlos. You are a Master in Porschism. What a fanatic job, full of passion. That makes the difference.

I quickly download it, before you claim a copyright.

Thanks,
Rufie.

Re: Finally, I finished the new video!

Thanks Rufie, I love the part with Ferry's pic
But no silly copyrights the video was made for you guys

Re: Finally, I finished the new video!

Carlos I watched it for the first time last nite. Very professional!! But I have a question. You have a Porsche and a road rocket bike and a QUAD??!! why not a motocross bike? that fits with your other two vehicles. Getting airborne is a major hoot! YZF250 or YZF450 or a Honda in either two sizes. Just curious

Re: Finally, I finished the new video!

OldGuy,

No doubt motocross bikes are a kick! I sometimes ride my sportquad along with friends with motocross bikes, or meet many in the mountains. And I actually learnt how to drive bikes on a 50cc motocross bike since I had to drive off the roads as much as possible to avoid police because I was about 11 or 12 years old. But my true calling was street bikes as soon as I was of legal age. I like the quad though since its so much different than cars or bikes and give me a big thrill the way they drive and handle.
I take it your a motocross bike man yourself? my brother has broken a few bones on those

Re: Finally, I finished the new video!

Yea I have several MX bikes with my 2 boys. and we race. Yes the hitting the ground part sucks and I know the emergency room guys by first name. But it sure is fun!!

Re: Finally, I finished the new video!

Total respect Carlos, you're the sort of guy that reminds me why I love driving. Such a pity we haven't got your sort of roads near where I live in the UK. Love driving quads as well, but no places to stretch them out round here...
