Thanks for the info RC, I’ll wait for the facelift anyway. I hope it has the new amg grill, to make it stand out more.

Yes, the Panamericana grille is rumord to come to the facelifted AMG models...

In seriousness, I know for EU any AMG is serious (and importantly, socially acceptable more-or-less) muscle, so enjoy your drifting!

A guy had a Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk in the valet parking here in Miami, it sounded amazing.

Way too late for this car, if they would have presented it earlier...maybe. Also pretty expensive in Germany.

    Re: Bought a muscle car...

The animal is home. I absolutely adore the engine and the sound it makes, the gearbox not so much. It's very slow witted, luckily the engine has enough grunt to overcome any gear that's thrown at it. I'm surprised by the grip in the dry, I'm assuming the wet will be more hilarious. Strangely the suspension is very hard, not what you'd expect from a Mercedes. It's ok, for a daily, but only just so. I think the GT3 in comfort setting is softer. Consumption is pretty appalling at the moment, but I assume once I stop downshifting just for the sake of it, it will settle around 14l/100km.

Definitely feels like a keeper this thing, and the combination with a GT3 is just perfect for me.

Interesting comment about gearbox.  I wonder if your shifter cables are adjusted perfectly (or some other issue).  I find it really nice.  Maybe drive a second example and see if it's the same?

As Duckie mentions, I'm talking about the C63. Nothing wrong with the GT3's gearbox (except feeling a touch light after a 997).

OK, gotcha.  Yes, the clutch and gearbox are much lighter than 997 GT3...

porker, certainly agree with you in that the C63 PP is absolutely hilarious.

looks more or less like a boring old C class.....but driving it is just so much fun.

its one of the funnest cars I have driven and that's why I am keeping mine. absolutely no reason to sell. its just toomuch fun and somehow a modern classic.

It certainly feels like something that couldn't roll straight out of the factory like that anymore. AMG obviously still makes crazy things, but that size of engine in that small a car will remain unique in German cars.

Smiley Very underrated and price-wise (at least in Germany and other parts of Europe maybe) a real steal.

Careful: Not necessarily a car for beginners, traction issues are quite extensive, especially with cold tires and with cold asphalt temperatures. To some this may be fun, to others it is an annoyance. Depends. It was fun for me when I used it as a weekend car but got annoying fast when using it as a daily driver. Just as a hint...

Insurance cost could be high for younger drivers, another thing to consider. The son of a guy I know wasn't able to get insurance for the C63 because he is 24. Now the car runs on his father. The 24 year old knows how to drive for sure, he was a junior champion in a national racing series but this didn't help with the insurance. Smiley

"Old" BMW M3 (with V8) is also quite the car to have, very nice offers available (in Germany and Europe).

Yup also been looking at used M3s and M4s for the last few months. For some reason the Vegas used sports car market is very good, so even a not so old model is priced considerably less than its new conterpart.

Thanks for the warning RC, when I finally get into a sporty car like that it would indeed be my "first" so I'd definitely want to be slightly careful with the choice. But if all goes well maybe this will be my year, fingers crossed.

    Re: Bought a muscle car...

    Congrats Porker !

I had a similar one before my current C63s and it was the most reliable car I ever owned and a lot of fun (didn't like the gearbox too much). The engine is a blast, way better than the  turbo  charged 4l (and fuel consumption is pretty similar).  However, the oil cooler has been an issue for me and others C63PP owners. When driven on a track or the autobahn in summer the temperature may exeed 130C (I think) and the car will switch into emergency mode, making it almost a 2CV.

As far as I can remember, there have been two fixes; nr 1: install the oil cooler from the Black Series and nr 2: change the mounting/angle of the existing oil cooler. The latter was the standard fix AMG provided and I had it done to my car with some success. Just wanted to let you know. You'll find some more info in the official AMG forum.

    Cheers

AMG (actually my dealer) installed a new "Radlauf Lüfter" (I think it is the engine oil cooler) after I made a complaint about a noise and maybe this is why I never had issues?! Maybe they installed a "better" version of the engine cooler by their own?!

Thanks for the warning, haven’t had any issues yet but will have it checked during maintenance. Indeed the gearbox isn’t the best, especially not compared to a modern ZF 8-speed, but overall it’s better than I had feared. Fuel consumption absurdly enough is better than our previous Alpina B3 with an engine half the size. Such bullshit that downsizing trend.

Bullshit in real world usage, absolutely great to "fake" consumption/CO2 output values. Smiley

    Re: Bought a muscle car...

Had been a while since I drove the C63 over "longer" distances. Drove Brussels-Munich yesterday, relatively easily in light traffic, fantastic companion on the autobahn. It's not the most modern anymore by any means, but that engine remains up there with the best.

And again with that average speed, it consumed certainly less than the bi-turbo 3.0 in my old Alpina B3. I hope the new emissions regs will see us increasing engine capacity again.

Wow that is a proper average speed for such a long distance, there must be plenty of fun forays up to big speeds on that journey blush

Your consumption 16 mpg (UK gallons not US) is pretty high, my 997GT2 would be way over over 20 mpg/14l/100,- the big V8 likes to drink wink

Ik know, you can't hide 6.2l capacity... My GT3 would do around 13l/100k for the same trajectory.

The trip we just finished (5300kms) with the GTS was an average of 13L but the average speed was like 100km.

That speed and that average for 700kms is good.kiss

That type of engine will never be proposed anymore. laugh

The 4.8L is a keeper. Do the same for that 6.3L
