there is a good post already on this, comparing the 997 vs. the gransport, check back a few pages and feel free to comment there. i am in this boat, and while i love both cars, i'm leaning towards the gransport. have to decide next month, when both cars are expected to arrive.

Prior to purchasing my 997, I saw the Gransport at a local autoshow. I spoke to a salesman and was seriously considering the car. Although I have never driven it, I have read numerous articles and have come to the conclusion that the car is a significant step foward from the regular coupe (which I was also considerding). Also, I feel that the porsche is more agile and perhaps more of a sportscar than the Gransport. But....the Grandsport has a roomier backseat than the porsche and the exhaust sounds incredible!!!!! It's a tough decision.....I think you will have fun with both cars.

It was funny to see this topic. I am waithing on a 997 S cab. Today during lunch I decided to check out the Ferrrari/Maser dealer in Greenwich CT. I was admiring a Grandsport when a salesman asked me if I wanted to go for a drive......Ohhhhhh "well okay" (said like Forrest Gump). Who would say no ?
He took me on some back road twisties. Most of it 2nd and 3rd gear stuff. The car is incredible. The sound in "sport" is really deep and throaty. I got a little sideways in 2nd gear on a sweeper and the car really pulled through. You can really feel the car come in and out of "sport mode". The torque was also a bit surprising. It pulled real hard. It was a little harsh on some bumps in sport but who cares. It is a genuine sports tourer. Compared to a 997 S it feels a little bigger. A little heavier to get around the bends. Not as much a pure sports car as the 997 S but more comfortable than a 997 S.(Especially if your 200lbs.) You can really have a lot of fun in this car. The downshift blips are great. I would definately buy this car over a 997 S if I wasn't looking for a cabriolet.
The quality of interior materials is fantastic. I love Porsche's and I really love the 997 but if I had to vote on richness of the cabin the Maser would win. Even with the drastically improved materials of the 997 the Grand Sports interior is gorgeous. There's tons of carbon fiber and the car probably has the greatest steering wheel I've ever felt. From the inside and out it almsot looks like a completely different car then the regular coupe.
The car I drove stickers at $111 and was the black metallic. It's the demo and is available if anyone is interested. If Maser made this car in 2+2 Convertible. I would have bought it today.

Yep, thanks for the review. I sat in one just a week ago at the dealer and i must say that just that felt much different and much more sporty than the normal one. cool car, but far too expensive. you can buy that for 50k in two years time, when the new model comes out...
