    Need counseling!

Seriously considering trading in the 04 Cay S for a 04 Cay TT that is on the lot! It has running boards and the spare wheel assembly which I am not totally sure I like....but the rest of the TT is awesome. Made the mistake of test-driving it. Am I crazy? I haven't even had the S for a year yet. The numbers are fair...not a steal but slightly below MSRP. Someone talk some sense into me...AK

    Re: Need counseling!

I think you made your mistake driving the Turbo! You mention the spare wheel assembly, are you referring to the rear mounted spare? If so, I hear that is a pain to deal with. Maybe it could be removed? The running boards could certainly be removed and I agree with you about those too.

Why don't you check out how good of a deal it is without these items you don't really want. Would the dealer subtract the cost of these if they were removed? Maybe a Turbo ordered like you want could be a better deal.

Also, I thought you had plans for a 911? Do I remember that correctly? If so, does that plan still work with a Cayenne Turbo? Wouldn't the 911 satisfy the need for speed?

    You really made a mistake!
The Cayenne Turbo is an awsome machine and especially people who owned a (less powerful) SUV before know how to appreciate the "extra kick" from the Turbo.
I wish I could talk you out of it but I expect to take delivery of a Cayenne Turbo myself end of this month.
If you can afford it, go for it. Life can be so damn short...

    Re: Need counseling!

This is exactly why I absolutely refuse to drive a Turbo. I WILL end up buying one if I drive one. My dealer tried to give me a Turbo Cayenne as a loan car the last time I brought mine in for service (I guess they know me pretty well too), but I refused to take it. Pretty sad sight - turning down the keys of a Turbo for fear of buying one. The Turbo is relatively inexpensive when you compare it to the possible divorce that could result from bringing home another vehicle (especially since I already have the new Aston AMV8 on order).

Nope, won't get near that Turbo. I'm still suffering the lingering effects of riding in Gary's Cayenne with Air-suspension. For $10,000, I can trade my S in for a another used S, but with Air-suspension. Now I'm scared to ride in one of those "air" Cayennes.

    Re: Need counseling!

There's truly a grain of truth in the saying appetite comes with eating (even just sniffing at the food can be dangerous)

Karl, do you have a delivery date for your AMV8 yet?

    Re: Need counseling!

    Matt,

Since the Dallas Auto Show was this weekend, I got a chance to actually talk to one of the factory reps instead of my dealer. The dealer had told me early (Feb-Mar) next year, since I have one of the first allocations. However, the factory rep. said that it will more than likely mirror the time frame of the DB9, thus introduction at Frankfurt 04, first US viewing Jan 05 at Detroit, and US customer deliveries starting early to mid summer 2005 (so hopefully I can get it before the end of summer 2005).

The DB9 they had at the car show was still a pre-production version, as the production cars have not yet begun to be built. I got a chance to crawl around in it and they weren't kidding about it being pre-production in terms of fit. However, not a single interior item is recognizable as a Ford or Jaguar part, and it all looked very rich and hi-tech. They are expecting to deliver US customer DB9s starting around summer time, with the Volante coming 4 months later.

    Re: Need counseling!

Ouch, that's a terrible long wait. On the other hand, you'll have more time to play with the Cayenne this summer (I tried hard to find something positive).

I remember seeing that car last year in Geneva. It is truly awesome. I think I stood in front of it for about half an hour with my mouth open.

May I ask you about the price?

    Need counseling!

Thanks for reality check!!!!! I am a newbie Porsche owner and have become somewhat obsessed with them. I was very close to trading in the S. I would have signed on the dotted line if it didn't have that rear spare....which I just find ugly. They were wheeling and dealing, throwing in all sorts of stuff, and came down 8000K. It is only one of 2 Turbos up here and they have a hard time moving them. I think I have put it to rest and I love the S anyhow! Need to keep my cell phone off for a couple days. Why didn't you guys warn me sooner about driving the Turbo? Does this mean I shouldn't take their C4S out for a test drive too?! You have helped me save $30,000......AK

    Re: Need counseling!

    Matt,

Actually, by the time it arrives, I will have been on the list for over 2 years.

As for the price, they have not announced anything except to say that it will compete with the Porsche 911. I would imagine they mean somewhere between $90k-$110k US.

Well...your counseling didn't work after all.. I just ordered the TT and will trade in the S only after a year. I was quite happy with my Cayenne and it will be tough to let it go. It is the same color as my S...so many wont even realize I did an upgrade! I am sure there is a moral to this story somewhere. Looking forward to the TT...should be here in a month....AK

I think you knew what you wanted to do regardless of others' counseling

The moral is, we all need to practice safe test driving! Don't go for a demo of that Twin Turbo! There's no cure!

    Re: Need counseling!

We are all crazy here :-) I suggest you go for it. Like a guy I knew used to say - you better do it and regret about it versa regreting not doing it.

Seriosuly I think its the same case I had with buying 911. I started with testing coupe, then 4s which I liked and then just tried Turbo without intend buying it...well I am a very happy 996 TT daily driver now and love it every second :-)

Well...our counseling actually DID work after all, didn't it? Congrats, you won't regret your decision.
