CGX car nut:I only care that the 992 GT3 is quicker than the Lamborghini Performante.
It isn't. The Performante Sport Auto tested in the Supertest had a mysterious power loss and they were able to do only one lap because they were thrown off the track because the Performante was too loud. Everything is in the article but of course you don't care.
The official lap time for the new and new tire tech using 992 GT3 is 6:59,927 min.
The official lap time for the 4(!) years old with "old" tire tech equipped Performante is 6:52,01 min.
Just saying. I know that most of you won't care.

Leawood911:Are you in some type of Lambo cult? :-)
just kidding
even if slower there is no comparison. The lambo would be my choice.
Probably. Much healthier than the Tesla cult though.
I was just reacting to the obvious which of course is just my imagination.

This is not a comparison of the same 20.8km lap though, is it?

Guess tire technology is following Moore's Law with a doubling of performance every 18-24 months.

Lap times of the NR are getting confusing as now there is the new official distance with a 20.8 km lap when up to about a year ago it was still the 20.6 km used.

Performante is still faster, 232 meters do not take almost 8 seconds.
If you are looking for a hair in my soup, you're going to find it but the soup is still tasty.
Please do not get me wrong: It is very impressive what Porsche did with a 510 hp car.

And one that costs $160k. But the new Corvette Z06 may set the new standard for the cost to break 7 minutes...

No, but about 4.5 seconds (cuts the advantage by more than half - but Porsche had better tires). And there is still the matter of whether the Performante's lap was entirely kosher (some are still convinced of some tricks being played)
It's been awhile since we were controversial here, so thought I'd stir things up (just for entertainment - I truly like all the cars in this discussion )

I guess you never drove a Performante...like many others. I don't blame you but there is a reason I went for this one an no Porsche. I almost got the GT2 RS but remembered what I love about n/a engines and...AWD.
Sport Auto achieved an amazing time with a Performante which lacked power. They did only one lap, which is usually the warm-up and getting used to it lap. They achieved an amazing time. Not that it matters to you or others here but they mentioned it in the Supertest.

I have not driven one (I have only driven an Audi R8 V10 with Manual and I really liked it). As I said, I like all the cars in this discussion, including the Performante. If I didn't, I would say so.

For those that are interested. The white car featured on Instagram is the first customer delivery at Porsche Zentrum PZ. Customer cars are now being delivered in Europe starting this week.
There are a number of 992 GT3 customer reviews at the Porsche testing track on this German forum which are interesting. The feedback is consistent. The chassis is a big step up especially the front end, the sound is very good etc.

2017 991.2 GT3 Manual, 2017 Alfa Romeo Giulia QV, 2017 Macan S (Petrol)
News from NZ.
My supplying dealer has told me yesterday that there allocations have been cut from 6 cars this year to two due to component supply chain issues at PAG.
My car and one other will be delivered before Xmas. Luckily when they asked me if I wanted to delay my order (2021 cars built before August will have the current PCM software and cars build after July will have the newer Taycan PCM software) I declined and decided to stay with my original order (build date in 3 weeks time).
Im not fussed about some change in graphics and UI, both PCM achieve the same thing and I rarely use PCM - mostly only my phone/Carplay for navigation etc. The screen was confirmed to me the same but the chipset is different and the UI had the Taycan style menus and graphics (similar but a little more polished).
My order does not have sport chrono (it is just a clock afterall - I have it on my 991.2 GT3 and I dont like the optik).
From what I understand there are supply chain issues that relate to the upgraded Taycan style PCM as well as secondary issues with Sport Chrono clock and TPMS modules. The factory have already planned for 2021MY production and there should be no changes for this but for many 2022MY with new PCM chipset are now delayed...
Not sure if this is the same information received from customers in Northern Hemisphere.

Im a bit tired of those stripes. they've been around for a while. Also Ive a friend in the business of printing vinyl. We once put vinyl stripes on a freshly painted track car I had and when we pulled them off two years later they left an orange peel on the clear coat. He told me at the time that the paint lacquer should have minimum 4-6 weeks to "cure" before applying a high tack adhesive decal. He was right...
For the 992 GT3 I think a front strip would work between the "nostrils" but I think it needs to be thicker and rectangle. I might have a play with this one day and have my friend make some up and apply them...if I get bored with the white....

Hey Grant. Snap. Im looking to move my .2 GT3 on next month...
That link I posed to the PFF site has the full commentary and some useful info from the guy Daniel (avatar = "Magic_fox") who made the video at BlisterBerg I posted a few days back. He owns a 991.2 GT3 with MR upgrades and give some interesting views on the new car vs his old. All positive for the 992 GT3. From post 1000 theres some good info if you care to trawl the forum on autotranslate...

The chip problem will have so many repercussions. Peugot for example had to change their digital screens to the old classical ones with needles on some of their current models, as they just could not get the needed chips.

This shows, again, how much we depend on China... In a serious conflict with China, this will bite us in the ass big time.

Im all in for going back to analogue.
Maybe its a blessing in disguise.
Hopefully manufacturers can only get thin steel in the future and only 18" wheels. Then perhaps our cars will weight 1200kg and be fun/challenging to drive at 100kmph through the windy roads. Heck, maybe the ECUs that run the dual clutch boxes wont be available and it would be manual gearbox only option again!
For many it would be the dark ages. Throw in the "pandemic" and it will be like the mid 1300s again. Heck, Downunder we only just got to the modern age. I think we still remember how to fix things and make stuff.
A few years of Mad Max would probably do us all some good. If the Plague cant reduce our numbers significantly perhaps a period of forced technology deprivation would be a good fix. Our kids would learn to make go-karts and tree houses and solve problems.
Maybe instead of paying 1000s for an Apple product we can produce 1000 apples from our garden.
We cheat nature with science no every time. Perhaps China shutting their doors will be a good thing. No pain no gain....
Half in jest of course.
