My German language proficiency is limited but it seems to say ...

The 991 front track is 1538mm whereas the 997.2 front track is 1486mm.

The 991 rear track is 1516mm and the 997.2 rear track is 1516mm i.e. unchanged and overall width is 1808mm i.e. unchanged.

So the front axle is now wider than the rear axle on the 991 but it is the other way round on the 997.2. Is this a typo or is it meant to be this way?

    Easy,

track is measured between the middle of two wheels. For example, were both axles to have the same track the one equipped with wider tires would still have the longer distance between the outer edges.

On the 991, the rear tires should still protrude around two centimeters further on each side than on the front axle, if my calculations were correct.

Thanks Ferdie Smiley Yes, I was aware of that. It's also helpfully illustrated on the scale diagram in Auto Motor und Sport.

Yes, that would help explain how the rear wheels may visually still look further apart (from the point of view of their outside surfaces) but I was actually wondering whether the wider front track may have an effect from a handling point of view. Any thoughts on this ?

I remember seeing a video about the GT2RS were Andreas Preuninger was saying that one of the things that they found that greatly increased the handling of the GT2RS was that they increased the front track on the GT2RS. So maybe this carried over to the 991.

Re: Ladies and gentlemen, the new 991...

Yup, that would seem to be a logical explanation.

Why is it that I see chrome window trimming on the blue car in the video?

Re: Ladies and gentlemen, the new 991...

hmmm.......sharp eye Carrara :) Really interesting why? On the pictures that we saw we can see the black trimming.....

Yes, just as swaybars or spring and damper settings, the track is influencing the handling and especially the turn-in. I guess Fritz could give a more elaborated response on that but from my understanding the wider track at rear counteracted some of the 911´s rear-engine traits. Possibly due to the longer wheelbase the front track could be increased and contributes to a better steering response.

Re: Ladies and gentlemen, the new 991...

Okay, here's my analysis. The silver car in the video has black stripping, and black brake calipers, therefore, its the base model. The blue car has a chrome window strip, and red brakes, therefore its a Carrera S. That would mean it will be like the Panamera where the base models have the black stripping, and the S models have the chrome stripping.

However, on the leaked images we saw an S with black stripping. So that leads me to believe the blue car is either a Carrera 4S, or the black stripping will be optional in place of the chrome, or maybe the other way around.

Re: Ladies and gentlemen, the new 991...

     Oh, and here's another video.

I think standard stripping will be black rubber like on 997. The brushed metal (chrome or St. Steel) overlay will be optional. So you choose sport or luxury look.

On the first picture trimming seems to be black, but on the picture of interior trimming is chrome....Perhaps it will be optional.

Blacoctober; It can also be seen on other interior pics that the red car of which the interior pics are taken is a Carrera S, and not a Carrera. Maybe the chrome is standard for the S, and the black is for the non-S?

That's the point - the red 991 that we saw on the pictures isn't "S"

That's what I meant to say: The read car of which you see EXTERIOR shots is a non-S indeed, like you showed. However, the car that we see INTERIOR pics of is also red, but it is an S. Look closely at the display to the right of the revcounter: it clearly reads "Carrera S" (see picture below).

Re: Ladies and gentlemen, the new 991...

Yeah, the images of the interior aren't the same car as the red exterior images. But the silver car we saw is an S and has the black trim, so I think chrome is standard for the S, but black is optional.

Re: Ladies and gentlemen, the new 991...

Black trim or silver trim, another way for Porsche to charge us on 'optional trims'

Re: Ladies and gentlemen, the new 991...

It's more logical for the black to standard on a sports car whether 3.4 or 3.8 and the chrome to be optional for those who want a "luxury look" finish. Nothing to do with engine size IMO.

Personally I would like the satin black finish for the trim instead of the black rubber as on 997.

Re: Ladies and gentlemen, the new 991...

Embargo lifted tomorrow, earlier than expected due to leaks.

Car is amazing, I saw it up close and personal today in Weissach.

Front and profile are great. Beautiful evolution.

Front lights are bulbed, like the Toyota MR2, looks great.

Sounds great. Sunroof resembles targa model, bc a proper targa model will come later (with removeable roof panel and aluminium details).

Re: Ladies and gentlemen, the new 991...

     Sunroof is optional?

Re: Ladies and gentlemen, the new 991...

    palenimbus:

     Sunroof is optional?

     Yes.

The one I saw was a Carrera S with Sunroof. Not the cleanest design when the sunroof is opened but you get that same feeling as the current Targa with sunroof closed, very airy.

Re: Ladies and gentlemen, the new 991...

Thanks for the info! So is the embargo lifted tomorrow, or is it lifted and the car is revealed on the web?

Re: Ladies and gentlemen, the new 991...

Also Futch, do you have any details on the chrome window stripping?

Re: Ladies and gentlemen, the new 991...

    Sorry nothing on chrome.

    Press embargo lifted tomorrow.

So, that means that there will be an option for glass-roof? The images that we have seen so far have not confirmed this since it looks like the roof is in metal. Will there be both options?
