    997C4S Tip or M5

    Im looking at buying one car which i would use everyday and im having trouble deciding which of the two to go for. Because of the traffic here in dubai would be difficult to live with manual as an only car. Im looking for most fun to drive and performance and if only the 997 came with a DSG gear box like the M5 would make it an easy choice. Appreciate anyones comments and views. Thanks.

    Wow I wish I had this delima. For me I would go for the M5 because I have kids. My kids can fit into the back of my 997 but in another 2 years or so they will not. With the M5 you get a family mover and a killer sports car. Now if you want a "pure" sports car that really is built for driving then the 997 would be the one. Again this is just my opinion and really you will not go wrong. Good luck..

    I canceled my M5 and ordered a 997 c4s tip. i based my decision on a number of factors.i have a 01 740i which i wasnt ready to get rid of so the 911 fit my inventory better.after sitting in a m5 some of the parts seemmed cheap .specificlly the door panel area where the window controls are.other factors include oil line leaks(see m5board.com) ,gas mileage not the cost but the lack of range on vehicle.color choices ,no individual allowed in us yet.on the plus side costs less,most options included in us anyway,maintenence included.room for 5 ,.it should come down to your daily driving routine.for me to have the nimble 911 to dart around chicago traffic made more sense than the m5 which is like rocket from 75 to 140 plus . after exploring both pretty thouroughly with the help of both forums i went for the c4s slate pccb leather this and that and have a feb13 build date.the m6 looks pretty good though too. i think i need a bigger garage!!!! good luck crg

    Eaaaaaaaaasy to answer this one. Get the M5 if you're going to have passengers and luggage, and groceries and "stuff."

    Get the Carrera if you're on your own, don't mind the effort required getting in and out of it (compared to M5), don't mind the sometims EXCESSIVE amount of driverinput, e.g. exhaust noise (yes I said it..., sometimes it is noise), massive amt of suspension information transmitted to driver, etc.

    Luxury Performance Sports Car vs Luxury Performance Sports Sedan. BOTH great performers. Too bad the M5 (these days) is waaaaay too ugly for me.

    I don't really give a shi# about other cars if you want my opinion.. I bought Jeep Liberty just for the kids and groceries.
    I would use the extra money to buy a 993 covertable.

    Why a C4S?

    I would do without awd (do you really need it in of all places Dubai?) and go with a C2S and X51 with Tip and add in Sport Chrono for good measure. The weight of awd would seem like a complete waste.

    Other alternatives might be the CLS55 and the Maserati Quattroporte to put on your list. Or even a used Ferrari 612 with the F1 gearbox - that's a really great car and seats 4 adults in comfort.

    I have a similar dilemma 6 months ago.

    I cancelled my M5 order and bought a 997S as I want a 6 speed manual sport car. To carry my kids around, I also bought a 530xi for family sedan.

    However, if you need space, buy the M5 as it is the best performance sedan out there now.

    I drove an M5 twice and found it seriously compromised. The automatic mode for SMG is slow and uncomfortable when compared to a conventional automatic transmission with torque converter. It is noisy and stiff like a sports car but weights 4000lbs and isn't anywhere near as much fun or exciting to drive as a sports car. Acceleration is phenomonal but that gets boring eventually. If you're looking for comfort and convenience, look elsewhere. If you're looking for a car that's fun to drive, look elsewhere. Based on your stated criterion, I would recommend you look at 997C2S with tip. But the only way to know which car is best for you is to test drive them both in the way you would use them, ideally back-to-back.

    I have been involved for most of my life, in an area of the United States that is considered a dangerous place to be in. But, being aware of the "bad" areas, and the bad guys, allowed me to drive the Porsche with just a "normal" concern for security. If I were to drive through multitudes of "bad" areas that I didn't know, A little less "Flash", and the additional 1000 pounds, might sway me towards the M5.

    I have never been to Dubai, I can only go by information from the "controlled" media. But, I do know that Damascus, Syria isn't one of the safest places in the world. Still, I personally felt safer walking the streets for the 2 weeks I was there, than if I were doing it in Newark.

    Security in Dubai is 100% not an issue. It's safe as houses....You wont get any nasty, menacing or jealous glances - or even have the displeasure of having to drive around in any threatening areas, however you may attract the attention of the ricers who love to speed around the city in a pretty careless manner.

    I think one thing to consider should be whether it will be your everyday car - or weekend car. Whilst the C4s is certainly not 'ideal' for everyday use, you will have tremendous fun driving it, and it will certainly be much more of an eye opener than the laborious, lug ended M5.

    Style, beauty and power = Porsche.
    Power = M5.

    dubaiporsche, are u on the list for the m5 or are you going to buy it from an independant dealer?

    I really wanted an m5, but the waiting list was too long 4 months ago. i got on the m6 list, then cancelled.
    you should definately get the c2s for dxb, c4s has lower resale value and is not needed.(plus performance is better on the c2s)

    Thank you everyone for your replies. I just came from the dealer and the car i had on order has arrived a 997C4S seal grey with full leather cacoa and sport crono, sport wheels, sport seats, and tipotronic.

    They also had another car available a 997C2S with metalic black, full leather black dash/red seats, sport seats, sport shifter, sport wheels and sport seats and manual transmission.

    I use to own a 996 C2 manual and enjoyed it a lot. I have to make my mind by tommorow whether to go for the 997C4S tip and becomes my only car, or go for a 997C2S manual and keep my other car a toureg automatic.

    Wondering for any owners of manual 997 who have switched to tip and how much of the enjoyement is lost or you miss out on with driving a 911? Really appreciate everyone comments as again i cant make up my mind yet! And i have changed my mind about the M5! Thanks..
