PASM with 19" wheels, YES or NO?

What's the concensus of this combo? Will the combo of 19" wheels and sport setting on PASM be overkill on public roads that are at least well paved?

Re: PASM with 19" wheels, YES or NO?

Light blue touch paper and stand well back.... get ready for everyones opinion on this one (again!)

I have 19" without PASM - yes the ride is firm, but not harsh - I have regular cross country drives on not the best roads in the world and it's fine - but PASM would definitely improve things in it's comfort mode - it's just that for me I don't need the 'comfort', well at least not Pounds1000's worth!

PASM does much more than just this though - search for the past posts on this, and if you've good surfaces to drive on the 'sport' setting is the D's Bs.

Re: PASM with 19" wheels, YES or NO?

I frankly don't think its worth the money unless you're planning to be on the track for a majority of the time - I ordered 19" Carrera Classics, no PASM and I'm in Manhattan so....if I become sterile while owning this amazing 987 S (that better not be delayed!), I'll let you know

Re: PASM with 19" wheels, YES or NO?

I'm north of ajcasteneda, ( in the adirondacks of NY )and have both. The ride is firm, but not harsh. Pasm is a blast. If you have the room... go for it

Re: PASM with 19" wheels, YES or NO?

Especially with the 19inch wheels you might appreciate to have 2 settings on board... besides, the car on 19 inch with the 1cm lowering due to the PASM looks better.

I really like the PASM / SportChrono - it's like having another car by the touch of a button.

Re: PASM with 19" wheels, YES or NO?

I have 19" and PASM. In comfort mode, the bad roads or speed bumps along my daily city commute don't bother me at all. In harsh suspension mode (PASM button pressed), the ride gets fairly brutal on all but perfectly smooth roads. I've used the hard mode only twice so far: On a track and on an extremely curvy drive.

With 19", PASM and sports chrono, I find my preferred ride mode to be with the sports chrono on active and the PASM on normal. That puts the suspension into a sportier setting without invoking the teeth rattle effect.

As said before, there's no way for me to compare this with other modes or tire sizes because I have only one Boxster and due to UK insurance restrictions I cannot just swap car with a fellow UK Boxster driver for testing. Besides, they'd all run from now until Christmas would they suspect I want to drive their cars.

Does the PASM equipped car stay 1cm lower all the time or only when you press the button for sport mode?

All the time. Sport mode only alters the hardness setting of the PASM system. On normal roads you don't need to use the sport setting. Porsche state in the brochure that the sport setting is for track use. But don't make the mistake of assuming that PASM is for track use because the biggest advantage of the system is the compliant ride in normal mode that automatically switches to a firmer setting if you start to drive quickly through challenging roads. I've just had two weeks holiday in Yorkshire here in the UK with tight twisting roads and PASM was really impressive.

This is is the kind of road PASM was designed for.

Re: PASM with 19" wheels, YES or NO?

    Thanks for the info, dreamcar

Re: PASM with 19" wheels, YES or NO?

I'm considering too the adoption on 19 Carrera S wheels with PASM.
I've decided to delete Sport Chrono from my order, because it improves only engine map and it not so necessary as on 997, there is no much difference between normal and sport button.

That's the combination I went for. I've driven the Boxster with sport chrono, may be it was me, but I couldn't tell any difference using it, which I definitely could when I tried it on the 997 S. I would only consider sport chrono if I was having the tiptronic transmission.

Re: PASM with 19" wheels, YES or NO?

exactly dreamcar, also RC said the same thing.
    no difference
    it's ok with Tiptronic

Re: PASM with 19" wheels, YES or NO?

perhaps it's a good optional if you go to track and you want to know laptimes.
    but only for that....

Re: PASM with 19" wheels, YES or NO?

Sports chrono is a difference alright, but it took me about two weeks to define it . It's subtle.
